Yes, but the Shaman seriously attacks and wounds the Japanese man, almost exposing him to the female ghost, and I don't see an argument for him being taken over by the Ghost since he had his stuff all along.

It's not just a switcheroo, the ending genuinely makes no sense. If the shaman was wrong about who the ghost is it would be fine, but the entire second half of the movie is just completely undermined by the very end.
