I didn't mind it. Certainly more watchable than any of the other Marvel movies, or capeshit in general. Haven't seen the 2nd movie though.

Nobody hates it, at least not for the reasons you would hate a bad movie. It's a great movie, and the sequel is even better, but you see, here on /tv/ we're suffering a peculiar situation "superhero movies" shaming, because some kids in here are real angry about things that are: popular and critically acclaimed. Add to that the stupid brand wars Marvel vs DC and we simply can't enjoy anything.

In other words, how they interpret the sky will correspond with how they interpret their own lives. Our materialist society would be impossible without a materialist cosmology to justify it. A mechanistic Newtonian cosmology justifies a mechanistic view of human life, a mechanistic politics, sociology, and economics. It sounds like a joke, but the idea that the stars are giant balls of gas reflects the modern obsession with fossil fuels / material goods in general. Copernicus wasn't going for a mechanistic religion, by the way; he was a Pythagorean and Heliolator, and hoped that the belief that the sun was at the center of the universe would usher in a return to a sun-worshipping priesthood like those of ancient societies.

The reason why the Devil spreads the idea of the ball earth is that it totally overturns mans relationship to the world. Instead of man being a spiritual being with heaven above him and hell below him; instead he stands on a ball where there are infinitely many ups and downs, where heaven isn't "above" but only "outside" the earth moral and epistemological relativism, infinitely many points of view.

You still don't understand that? Ronan was so completely serious that it took something that bizarre to distract him for even a moment. The only words he speaks in a normal tone the entire movie was the first "What are you doing?" It was a desperation ploy. It was never going to distract him for more than thirty seconds. Luckily that's all the time they needed.

I remember really enjoying the first one when it came out.

Recently I saw the second one (obviously) and for other reasons re-watched the first. The charm had worn off and I think its tone/style didn't age well.
