The whole point of Rocky's boxing is that he can just take punch after punch after punch.

In the first film it's played off as Apollo pulling his punches a little until he realises he's going to be swarmed by Rocky's brawler style but then it's taken to dumb levels in III and IV where he's receiving knockout blows every punch
