Davos is great, I just don't want his character ruined further. There is no reason why loves Jon's cock, no reason why he didn't just put a sword through Melisandre. He's a Stormlands Lord, he could be off there reuniting with his remaining family and rallying them around Gendry or something like that, but nope he's just hanging around Jon.

Stop me if you've heard this one.

"Red Priests" are not worshiping a literal god but are themselves patsies in a Targaryen hoax as part of a plot to reclaim the Iron Throne.

The "priests" are mere greenseers attuned to fire instead of earth, hence their ability to have visions through fire. As they are antithesis to earth in the way that future is antithesis to past. They are red seers to a sense.

Moreover, their visions are not of a literal future, but projected to them to manipulate their beliefs about what must be done.

Why is it a Targaryen? Aside from their gigantic thematic connection to fire both past and present, Melisandre's job (perhaps unknown to her, of course) is literally to annihilate any Baratheon descendant that may lay claim to the throne. She assists Stannis in the murder of Renly (Through a shade that looks like smoke. Another thematic opposite from the greenseers and their warging) and then demands that he kill his only child in a fruitless attempt to abate a storm that plays a part in the downfall of his army and Stannis' death. Depending on who is really pulling the strings, Melisandre may have simply been unknowingly tasked with Vengeance for Aerys II. It's even feasible, considering her illusion, that she is Rhaella who was reported dead so that she could work a plot against those who wronged her family.

Aerys II and Rhaegar were both cremated, and I imagine if that were eventful, we'd have heard something about it in the past 6 books. It is said that while communing with the weirwoods greenseers can become lost in the visions. I think it's highly likely that cremating the Targaryens renders them into "fire spirits" capable of manifesting and creating visions wherever fire occurs. It may play a part in Sandor's fear of fire, if he had seen horrible things that the Targaryens tried to show him through these fire visions.
