I felt a similar shame when watching the avengers movie in cinemas when it came out. I remember being a marvel comics fan back then, I was excited when the Iron man movie came out because it opened new territory in what we are witnessing now. I remember the endless debates and speculations on /co/ when every standalone movie came out. Thor, iron man, Captain america. I watched them all excitedly and forgiving the weak scripts and mediocre direction because I thought "when avengers comes out this will be so awesome!".

Then it came out, and I couldn't cognitively dissonate my way through watching that shlock anymore. I couldn't ignore the sheer barrage of inane Joss Whedon quips, nonsensical moments and blatant fanservice. I couldn't handle the audience laughing every 5 minutes even at the non-funny scenes, on cue, as if they were the laugh track on a sitcom. The day I watched Avengers was the day I quit capeshit.

And obviously, like every piece of media that caters to the average consumer market, this one will be an uninspired, by the numbers, safe and easily digestible crap packaged for the 100iq simpleton.

In the Infinity Gauntlet, the first half of the comic is just the Avengers trying to decide what they are going to do against Thanos because they were fight him. After he kills them quickly and gets rid of Galactus, Infinity, and the others, leaves his physical body to become one with the universe. He then goes to the embodiment of Death (he does all of this because he wants to impress death and cause Death to fall in love with him), but Death doesn't show herself to him after now strong he has become and says that he is on a level that a person of her status cannot be with.

He basically becomes too strong for her instead of impressing her, and everyone dies in vain.

MCU is the first truly corporate franchise in hollywood. There's always been a certain amount of corporatism in film but they never had much control since scripts, directors and actors had to come together in a cohesive way to make a film work. So studios didn't interfere more than necessary.

With MCU, the suits finally found a way to corporotize films completely. Tie actors down to long term contracts with low effort and high payoff for them. Hire multiple scriptwriters to write focus group/market research approved dialog and story. Keep the visuals busy but unremarkable so that directors can be swapped without noticeable difference.

With every new movie they have a list of requirements and things to be avoided in terms of story. With spiderman it was to keep the scale small so that when infinity war comes along people aren't fatigued of the end-of-the-world scenarios. Infinity wars will probably be required to be epic and emotional and the 3-10 harvard grads they've hired to write this will make sure that it is.

Yea, paying justice to the massive Infinity Gauntlet arc, and doing it properly, would be a risk and more interesting for adults than kids. Thanos isn't a one note villain, and all the godlike cosmic entities at play, Thanos himself being a Titan, is going to be kirby territory and unprecidented in these films.

the one fucking thing thats going to ruin it is if Thanos is just a boss battle on Earth somewhere. That will kill it and any hopes I have. The problem is non comic fans dont actually know anything about Thanos other than Internet memes and youtube videos explaining the absolute essentials. The Russos seem to be comic enthusiasts though, I have some trust here. They also seem to value character exploration and plot over jokes like the previous Avengers movies.
