The game actually takes place in the past while John Kramer is still alive. The whole thing is set up so that the detectives ten years after jigsaws death think they're on to a new game but in reality, its his legacy and put in place so that no one forgets his work and to inspire others.

The trailer shows the detectives coming across the buzz saws on the wall after the fact, made to look as though they're catching up to the game but no.

VII was also supposed to be two parts but the studio screwed Kevin Greutert and David Hackl to stop Greutert directing one of the Paranormal Activitiy films. So it was all rushed into one super rushed ending instead of over two films. It was supposed to slowly show that Jigsaw's wife was looking after Dr. Gordon as well and Jigsaw had always planned to kill Hoffman after the game in VI (Which is why Hoffman goes ultra psycho).

Also killed Kevin Greutert's career thanks to the awful reviews after he was tipped as a future prospect after VI was really well received critically. That film was fucked beyond measure. That's Hollywood for you.

I remember describing the series to a friend as it was the most passionately made shit series ever. It feels like a YouTube series that got really popular and everyone involved is working really hard but they're all so c-list it hurts. They built sets so that they could transition from one location to another in the same cut just so it looked cool and unique. It was way over the top but always tried so hard to be serious it is truly wonderful and I didn't realise how much I loved it till just now.

They need to increase the ridiculousness with each movie now like F&F, to the point where its unrecognizable to the original movies in 5 or 10 years.
The movie after this will have 100+ people in a trap.
The next movie will introduce some supernatural concept to the world.
The next one will be Saw in Space, where Jigsaw secretly hid traps in the ISS as it was being built. Saw traps could get really neat in zero-g environments.
The next one introduces time travel and we revisit old movies as future detectives try to stop jigsaw before he ever makes traps. The best part here is that Jigsaw foresaw time travel and anticipates future cops.
The next one reveals that every cellphone on the planet was part of Jigsaw's design. They all lock on the the flesh of the users and instructions via text have everyone carry out gruesome tasks to be freed before the cellphones fry their brains.

Only some of the traps were impossible and none of them were John's.

One was the pendulum trap by Hoffman where he put his sister's murderer. Another one was by Amanda where a cop was put into a situation where even escaping would kill her regardless. Amanda was just butthurt because she wasn't John's favourite anymore.
