What is the general opinion on Fire Walk With Me? I love it.

I think it's really a strange thing because it goes in two almost contradictory directions at once with the Lodge stuff. The Lodge spirits are presented as undeniably real due to how the FBI interacts with them, yet the film presents the Leland/BOB dynamic in a way that makes you question whether BOB is real at all or just a figment of Laura's imagination. The spirits of the Lodge are simultaneously real entities as well as manifestations of Laura's pain and psychological distress. Genius.

I think the film makes it 100% clear that BOB is real, just like the show does. The difference is that the show seems to imply there is a hard line between leland and BOB, that Leland is in essence an innocent, whereas the film makes the line between leland and BOB extremely blurry. The way the film does it is superior and much more interesting; I think Lynch was unsatisfied with the show's implication that Leland was just an innocent puppet being controlled by BOB, especially when earlier scenes (like his killing of maddy) could be read as there not being such a hard dividing line between them. FWWM in many was acts as a retcon, making it canon that Leland and BOB were not entirely different entities.

Like you said, BOB and the other lodge spirits are both real entities and metaphors, not one or the other.

Originally Coop was supposed to be subtlely kind of shady instead of completely pure and would start dating 18 year old Audrey and cause conflict in the town. They laid the framework for it but the Coops actor and LFB started dating and she demanded that Coop not have any scenes where he kissed another woman than her or she would quit mid season.
