Biggest problem with Dance is that it doesn't have an ending. Feast and Dance are two books that were supposed to be one book that are missing the ending for that book, and originally weren't even supposed to exist at all (supposed to be a timeskip after ASoS). It's very clear at this point that GRRM is stuck in a hole that he can't write himself out of.

Look, the show is a fucking cartoon at this point and is nothing like season one which was legitimately great. I think it's fucking stupid but I'm going to keep watching it to the end because like many of you I just can't stop watching at this point. Just try and ignore the stupid stuff and enjoy the couple of good character scenes we get each episode.

For example (pic related) the ironborn, on a island with almost no trees, built the worlds largest and best fleet, and not only that, but they did it in just the time it took for Yara and Theon to sail their stolen ships to Dany and then sail to Dragonstone. In fact they built the LARGEST FLEET IN THE WORLD crewed by tens of thousands of men and sailed it all the way to Kings Landing BEFORE THE OTHER FLEET ARRIVED AT DRAGONSTONE.

This doesn't make sense in any way and is actually impossible. But I just closed my eyes and tried to pretend it wasn't real and then waited for the scene with the hound and enjoyed that. It's the only way to survive this brothers. You have to employ selective amnesia.

The TV show is full of things like this. They look like they're going to keep story lines then drop them, or they drop story lines and then decide to bring them back (the Ironborn story line being a very good example of the latter). I think the plot was getting too complicated for them or they didn't want to hire more actors. The thing with Illyrio is he's a highly important character, but he has just dropped out of existence. Not even a token sudden death. He's just no longer in the story.

I think that when they made season 1 they were pretty faithful to the books, which is why there is this initial setup.

They also think that the viewers are dipshits and have thought this before it became the most normie show around. They changed Theon's sister's name from "Asha" to "Yara" simply because they thought that people would confuse "Asha" with "Osha".
