I can't imagine this being good simply due to having so many characters.

Didn't BvS flop partly for this reason? Too much shit shoved in to try and make a cinematic universe instead of just making a good movie. And suicide squad too, too many characters.

Wonder Woman was a big enough success to serve as a palette cleanser for normies, and Whedon's involvement negates the Snyder-stink for nerds. I think this movie is starting on neutral ground for once, and it's success hinges on its quality as a tentpole movie.
