why didnt the humans and the 'donkeys' have any brotherhood after fighting and dying together in dozens of battles?
at first I thought the apes with the humans was a surprisingly realistic element; reflecting blacks fighting for the south in the civil war; and even afganis fighting for the US in afganistan; or soviets fighting for the germans in ww2 ect ect.
But instead of any clear brotherhood they act as if they wre just tricked or bullied into submission; yet still somehow trusted enough to fight alongside the humans; even going out of there way to be useful (pointing out the patrol in the opening battle). War of the planet of the apes put almost zero effort into expanding or humanizing the human side; its so terrible
and then put so much effort into giving the ape side multiple comedy relief characters and a child to really pull your heartstrings.....
if the writers felt that they HAD to portray the Colonel as misguided or even plain wrong; they could have used a legitimate relationship between the Donkeys and the humans as evidence that Apes and Humans COULD coexist; and highlight the inherent contradictions in the 'inevitable struggle' ideology.
But instead they HAD to have the Donkeys as some kind of bullied race traitors/uncle toms. Isn't the Donkey betraying his real friends and attacking the humans out of racial loyalty at the final battle just exactly the kind of feeling that Koba was bringing and that Caesar was struggling against..... but in the end its what saves him
this movie is retarded
