He was the autistic kid in school with no self-awareness but no one ever beat him up. His backstory is that he had his mom take many photos of him holding a shitty replica of Sephiroth's sword while wearing a fedora, trenchcoat and cargo shorts.

Great character. Foxx did a great job showcasing the mindless, impulsive, violent savage that is the American black. He had swag and machismo, but it was a confidence based only on his willingness to do violence indiscriminately, due to a lack of empathy stemming from poor values and low intelligence. This is why the other characters in the movie, while being violent outsiders themselves, are so on edge around him. The violence of Buddy, Darling and Doc are calculated, planned, all part of a job. Buddy only looses his shit after he looses his love, a kind of dark chivalry. Bats is a classic example of the loudest one in the room being the weakest one in the room.
