I'd heard such good things about that movie, so I watch it and I could not believe how bland and lame the whole thing was. I think the biggest problem is that it tried to be too many different kinds of movies, you go from a thriller, to a realistic apocalyptic movie, to almost a dark comedy, to a conspiracy/mystery, to a slasher, and finally to an alien sci-fi/action. Hated in the Nation is by far the worst. It's a baby boomer's fear that everything being digital means it will turn on us all and also her granddaughter might be being cyberbullued turned into a feature length film.

Waldo, Shut up and Dance, and National Anthem were forgettable and banal, with the former fueled by fake-deepness, the middle by common fears, and the latter by shock value

Everything not mentioned is solid meh.

Nosedive and EHOY were better than average. Pretty easy to see what's hapepning, but thought provoking. I also like fiction that shows yuppies suffering.

Even though the premise feels very YA novel and the world makes no sense, I enjoyed Merits. Maybe it was the pacing and the fact that it was like halfway through before we even saw a wide shot or anything remotely establishing.

I maintain that the best are White Bear, San Junipero, and White Christmas, because you have no idea what the fuck is happening till they wrap up, more or less. All 3 of them were pretty intense rides, but White Christmas > White Bear > San Junipero. What really makes all 3 of them good is the fun of watching them the first time, though. I liked S3 in the end. With the first episode I was shocked because it was set in America and I thought this spelled doom for Black Mirror as I thought that Netflix buying the show forced Brooker to write American stories. Thankfully we ended up with a nice mix of US and UK settings in the end.

I also dislike San Junipero. It's a heart-warming story and I heard it's the most well-received story of the whole show, but I watch Black Mirror for the gritty, gruesome possibilities of technology in the not-so-distant future, not for a lovely love story.

Playtest, Shut Up And Dance, Men Against Fire and Hated In The Nation were all great. Providing interesting and unique stories once again and getting some quality, well-known actors in.

Be Right Back, was a bit of a miss for me. I liked the general feel of loss and despair of the situation, of this young couple with their life ahead of them being ripped apart. I liked the slow decent into madness as the girl started to use the service and started to feel a real attachment to what was simply a technological ghost of her dead husband, chatting with her by using voice clips etc.
But once she started throwing a lump of flesh in her bathtub and waiting overnight, it was just ruined for me. I know and like what they were trying to do there, but it should never have come that far. Completely took me out of it.

The whole "Twitter can now analyse everything you post and keep posting once you've died" thing that is actually a real thing in life being used as a concept in that episode to show us how completely wrong that is was great. But they jumped the shark with the body clone thing.

White Bear was also great. At first I thought it was a lazy reference to people always filming stuff on their phones when something like an accident or robbery happens instead of actually helping. But it turned out to be a lot darker than that. Shaming a convicted criminal for eternity, day after day while the criminal's memory gets reset at the end of every day was completely brutal.
The idea of a televised spectacle where the country's most despised wrongdoers get mentally tortured day after day and you can "come on the show" is chilling.

What really elevates SUAD above the rest for me was how fucking simple and believable it was. No fancy technology, not set in the somewhat distant future, it's just people fucking up the lives of already fucked up people. Plus it's tense all the way through.
