Season one was pretty good.

Season two is shit. I guess it's because literally nothing is happening. We got an unimportant sub-plot with Tulip's husband that took up two episodes. Pretty much inconsequential, the issue if the characters of preacher and Tulip aren't interesting in the slightest. The whacky situations they get into is what's interesting and so far season two has just been boring, uninteresting action.

I'm not a comic book fag so there was intrigue and mystery in season one. The plot with the meat packaging guy was interesting, I didn't know where it was going, I had no idea what the story was leading up to. Season one had shit going on, as a loser comic book nerd you knew exactly what was going to happen so it might've been boring for you, but for someone who isn't a fucking loser and doesn't read comic books, season one had intrigue and mystery, the plot was always moving forward.

Season two has been nothing but pointless (and poorly choreographed) action scenes. What is their goal? To find God. What have they accomplished so far which will take them one step towards their goal? Absolutely nothing. The characters of Tulip and Preacher are boring as fuck, so two whole episodes dedicated to developing their characters (e.g, the previous two episodes) were wasted.

The real mistake was turning Garth Ennis' trash comic into a pulp series. They should have adapted something else, but why fucking Garth Ennis?

Even if someone did a no-holds barred adaptation of Crossed it would be hard to get his sense of humour right without overdoing it and ending up in broad comedy with gore. Man. Garth Ennis is the only comic book writer that I simultaneously love and loathe at the same time. He has such great ideas and themes that ultimately tell a pretty interesting story most of the time. He also has a knack for making you like characters you normally wouldn't give two shits about.

But, on the other hand, he sure does love himself some "lol looked how fucked I am" moments. I don't mind gore and violence and the like; but the things he has in some of his comics makes me question why I bother in the first place. Crossed is just one big "look at us constantly try to outgross the last issue" series.

That's why I'm honestly enjoying Preacher (TV Series) quite a bit because, as much flack as they get, the show runners seem to be riding that fine line of what makes Garth Ennis great while leaving out what makes him not so great. We don't need a scene where Arseface's dad shoves his own cock up his ass then shoots himself.

Nothing wrong with ultra gore and violence and shock. But when you constantly rely on it as a crutch to say, "lol humans are evil look at what they would do with power" then it gets boring because it overshadows any character development and themes you are trying to accomplish with main cast members.

I get the sense the original story would have simply been too expensive to film. Then because Seth Rogen and the creators of the show feel like they can write just as well as the comic creators, they decided to go ahead and do the show anyway. This was a fucking horrible arrogant mistake to make and I hope they're extremely ashamed of themselves for bringing a solid, fun comic with a defined story arc and a decent ending to wider public attention in a totally worthless form. The main character needed to be a young Matthew McConaughey type; instead we get an angry hairy thumb man with zero appeal.
