I find Will Ferrell to be Hit or Miss this was a funny enough movie at least it didn't have gags that go on for way too long.

It's a comfy comedy

I'm not a huge fan of Ferrell's brand of comedy, but he works best when teamed up with someone to play off of, like Reily.

So, it works because of that chemistry; though, I think Step Brothers was better.

This. Walk Hard is easily the funniest movie of the early to mid 2000s Ferrell/Stiller/Reilly/Wilson bros style of humor. Even though it was an Apatow movie and came out the same year as Superbad, it did the over-the-top parody thing better than TN, Zoolander, Anchorman, Semi Pro, and Blades of Glory (easily the worst of the bunch), etc.
