Yes, that's Dave's whole narrative arc in the film.

He's not Italian, but idolizes the Italian cyclist team so he learns the language and pretends to be Italian throughout the film.

The big race at the end finally happens and as he rides into the pack with the Italian racers, hoping to impress them, they instead knock him off his bike and cheat.

After the race, he stops pretending to be Italian because he realizes what pieces of shit Italians are and he'd been making a fool of himself throughout the whole film.

Nah. It's okay to have a moral that Italians are shit, but they'd never do that with a minority.

Closest we'll ever get is Gung Ho and even that one was a "we have so much to learn from each other" copout.
