Pic related. I get that he doesn't have the acting chops to play the Doctor and it's stupid when people keep suggesting him but I think he'd make a great companion, entertaining and hilarious as fuck

>/who/ presents:
DOCTOR WHO: SHIT TRIPS Vol. 2
- The Anthology -

>Are you a true fan of Doctor Who?
>Have you ever written down a sequence of words?

If the answer is yes or no, then you are ready to contribute a literary masterpiece to the second /who/ collection of original Doctor Who-based short fiction.

/who/ did it once. Now, we're gonna do it again! Yet another entry in an age-old tradition of p̶a̶c̶k̶a̶g̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶f̶a̶n̶f̶i̶c̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶g̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶g̶i̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶i̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶l̶e̶g̶i̶t̶i̶m̶a̶c̶y̶ / celebrating the magic of Who and the talent of a community.

There are no limits (except the story must be at least 1 word long, and preferably not in excess of 10,000, it's short fiction you fuck).

>- Can involve any Doctor(s), companion(s), side characters, spinoff characters and beyond, as your heart desires
>- Can be in any style, whether it's "legitimate writing", "pisstake", or "shitpost".
>- Can be about absolutely anything
>- The main focus is on good fun in the vein of the wiki, although serious entries are allowed. (If you're going to write smut, maybe approach it with a degree of levity)

Stuck for ideas? Try starting with your favourite TARDIS team (or for timeliness, Whittaker 13th Doctor) and one of these authentic titles:
http://www.saberpunk.net/DoctorWho/DoctorWhoSerialGenerator.php
https://glyphobet.net/drwho

We are going to be starting an index on the wiki for the collection. Anyone can contribute, no signups/pitches required. If you have ideas, feel free to broadcast them.
The rest is self-explanatory. Format for uploading your work is up to you, as long as it can be conveniently copied across (and ideally don't spam long texts in /who/ directly). (Pastebin works well.)

BONUS: Anyone who wants to do cover art or "illustrations" is encouraged.

WE NEED MORE ENTRIES

Actually, 13 being a woman opens up a lot of possibilities for male companions. Like you said, Ayoade always gets mentioned as a good cast for the Doctor even though he can't act for shit, but he'd be great as a comedy companion.
I mean, Matt Lucas isn't much of an actor but it didn't really bother me or stand out much and he had some surprisingly genuine good moments.

But like >>85100236 said, he'd be too much like another Nardole even though everyone wants another Nardole.

Timelash, if a bit boring in places, is nowhere near as bad as its reputation would lead you to believe.

In fact, so far, the only truly bad episodes of the JNT era have been Time-Flight and The Twin Dilemma.

Timelash looks rather splendid - the titular lash and some of the sets/lighting are somewhat garish, but a lot of it looked quite impressive, particularly the villain's face, which is just spectacular work. A couple hammy performances, but some great ones as well (Tekker the former, Vena the latter).

The script has a couple of good laughs in it, and some sweet moments. The revelation of what the villain becomes and that of whom Herbert turns out to be are lovely touches. The shock near the very end really raises the stakes and genuinely did catch me off guard.

I adore Peri, although I can’t quite put my finger on why. I like how she resigns herself to being bossed about occasionally with an “oh” or and “aww”, never happy about it but accepting it must be so. Her and The Doctor’s sparky relationship is fun to see. Colin Baker is magnificent and lights up everything he is given.

The Doctor does his most egregious "I'll explain later" yet, as odd as him producing a cup of tea in Davros' chair. It’s almost annoying. I’m sure someone has done a novel/comic/play about Three’s earlier visit to this planet. The visual references to him and Jo warmed my heart.

I’m feeling a strong 6 to a light 7 on this one. Tran-

It does open interesting possibilities for male companions, but probably not comedians/comic actors. Jodie will get a main male companion and possibly a female companion as well, but the focus will probably be on the male companion. He'll be the Rose/Martha/Donna/Amy/Clara/Bill character, discovering the universe with the Doctor, with some focus on his life on Earth and his family or friends etc. So I don't think the male companion will be the comic relief.
If they are going for another trio with a comic relief character it'll likely be the female companion. So get ready for Sarah Millican or Miranda Hart.

I was joking obviously, that would be terrible. They'll likely go for a male and female companion in a relationship (like Amy and Rory), or just friends/know each other. I doubt they'll do another comic relief character even though it worked so well.
I was just pointing out that if they DID decide on another Nardole character, the role would likely go to the female companion and not the male one.

They won't go down the "companion falls in love with the Doctor" route again. Especially now that the Doctor looks female, it would be touted as objectifying and sexualising her.
If there's romance, it'll be between the companions, who I assume will be one male and one female. At least one of them will probably be an ethnic minority, not that that matters, to me at least.

Sure. Clyde and Rani at least are top tier. And it's worth it at least for completionism, you'll have to deal with the Slitheen again in the series 3 finale but you've also got Ten vs. the Trickster and then Eleven meets Jo Grant.

That is pretty good acting if you're pretending to be a normie and acting like a normie who is getting angry.

But if you're pretending to be the Doctor, one speech like this and I get three cancers.

In all seriousness, if Chibbs does make a new "adult" spin-off along the lines of Torchwood I'd like to see him try to incorporate the Doctor into it. For as much as we memed about Malcolm Tucker as Doctor Who it was pretty jarring to see Capaldi all family friendly in Class. Maybe Chibbs and Jodie could pull something like that off better than the material P. Ness left him with.

And it will always stay that way. Even if Class is rated higher, the Doctor has an image to maintain, and they won't let him betray it. One of the old Torchwood commentaries says they weren't even allowed to put the Doctor in Torchwood because it would hurt his reputation as a family figure - hence why he made a couple SJA appearances but never Torchwood. I don't know how they convinced the BBC to let them put him in Class, but having him act family friendly was clearly a requirement. If there's another adult spin-off, you won't get adult Doctor, you'll get the same Doctor in that setting.
>>
>>85102310
Why'd you have to end that post with an idiotic 9gag meme? Destroys your credibility entirely even though I agree with all of your points.

Clara was Moffat's best example of self-indulgence as a writer. He wasn't content with Amy's crack in the wall making her super special so he went a step further with Clara and made her the most important woman in the universe. She saved his life hundreds of times, in every incarnation. She convinced Hartnell's Doctor to pick the right TARDIS. She even soothed a crying Doctor when he was still a young boy and imbued in him the idea of becoming the Doctor. That's WAY too much stuff written in to the canon now. She's basically responsible for the "birth" of "The Doctor".
>>
>>85101772
You know you're right when people don't want to talk to you.
>>
>>85102806
Funnily, Moffat said he didn't want to put the Doctor in Torchwood because it would then make children want to watch Torchwood, which he doesn't want to encourage of a young audience. That's a fair point, so I wonder why he didn't seem to mind putting the Doctor in Class.

I remember the uproar when they aired the trailer to Cyberwoman from Torchwood. Children were really excited about the Cyberman appearing and wanted to watch Torchwood and parents had a hard time convincing their 5-to-10-year-old children that they couldn't watch it.

I mean I was 14 back when Torchwood started in 2006 so I could watch it and even at that age I thought the way they went with a spin-off for an adult demographic was hilariously bad. SEX ALIENS! EVERYONE'S FUCKING EACH OTHER! LOOK AT HOW ADULT THIS ALL IS!

But will Jodie keep them ? Depends on the writing, the ability of Jodie to pull it out, and on people.
But I don't think we'll keep an audience bigger than the current one.

People watch a lot for the buzz and the hype nowadays, once it's gone, they find something else.

At this point core viewership will remain, but how much of it will be left ?

I expect 1st Jodie series to have good figures, the real test will come afterwards. Might be rough

People are acting as if Jodie was chosen simply because of her affiliation with Chibnall. That interview where Chibnall says he always wanted a female Doctor and that Jodie was perfect/first choice is obviously him hyping her up. He wouldn't say "well it was hard to cast, but eventually Jodie sold us in the end".
Obviously there were auditions. Obviously hundreds of people turned up to audition. And however much Chibnall likes Jodie or enjoyed working with her on Broadchurch, if she did a laughably shit audition, she wouldn't have been cast.
People are drastically looking for clips from Jodie's acting career to show she wouldn't be a good Doctor. But obviously Chibnall, the BBC and any other people in charge of casting and approving thought she was great, or she would not have gotten the job.

Couldn't give a toss about the casting process. Chibnall was responsible for the casting in Broadchurch, and that has one of the best ensembles I've ever seen in televison, and everyone suits their role perfectly. If he says she's right for the role, I'm willing to trust him on it.

>Should I watch Broadchurch?
Yes. A lot of people seem to recommend it for the mystery aspect, but I wouldn't. Sure, it's interesting watching them try to solve it all, but that's not the main draw of it (and in all honesty, it's a bit of a letdown in that department). It's more of a drama about how one boy's murder impacts a small village, and how it causes all of the little problems everyone has been bottling up to erupt. It's very well shot and directed, the acting is superb, and for the most part the writing is great. At the very least you'll get a decent idea of Chibnall's writing and a glimpse of Jodie's capability. Plus there's Tennant.
I wouldn't say it's incredibly depressing like the other anon, because it's not very cynical, it's just accurate - so you get a mixture of tragedy and optimism in there. A word of warning: the second season is a huge step down, partly because it takes a very different route. I haven't gotten around to watching the third.
>>
>>85104644
It's a great series with well-written characters and a good storyline. It's what convinced me that Chibnall was a great choice for DW showrunner.
It is really depressing though, so don't go in expecting anything happy-go-lucky. It's a serious drama about the after effects on an entire village after the death of a young boy.
>>
>>85104917
Interesting. I guess yes then.

I know people will say I'm an alt-right complotist, but from that information, am I the only one guessing that it's precisely why Chibnall was chosen as showrunner ?

Last thing, I heard people, "progressive people" saying by thousands that it was a shame castings were only males because the only thing that mattered was "acting skills".
Shouldn't those people rebel too if only females are cast ?

Thank you, you wonderful people.

Time to get comfy.
>>
>>85105194

I'm in doubt they auditioned anyone else. Chibnall wanted female, Jodie had probably become one of his favorite actors to work with through broadchurch so they will have spent some time screen testing her to make sure she worked. If she didn't then sure, audition. But why waste money and time interviewing others when your personal choice is willing and suitable?
>>
>>85105117

Their brains literally stop developing at around 13.

Toilet humor really is the best they can do.
>>
>>85105314
Honestly I wouldn't like it. Her tone in this doesn't fit the doctor at all. I would find it extremely cringeworthy. And I say that putting all my hate for a female doctor aside
>>
>>85105030
I was of the opinion that Broadchurch should've ended after S1, as it had closure on the storyline. Felt they were milking something that turned out to be a massive success and I wondered how they were even going to do more without there being another murder in this small village, which would've been completely unrealistic.

In the end I think they did a good job of stretching out the story by developing the characters more and showing more of the aftermath, while including new characters and storylines. S2 wasn't great, but you ought to watch S3. It was a lot better than S2 and tied everything up nicely. It helped that it was set some time after the first two series, and the rape storyline was handled well and had that same tension that you felt in S1.

something goofy

show will unironically die if we see any clevage from the doctor. no sexualisation at all please.

Is this actually possible? If I write in my worst handwriting (aka my best handwriting) and pretend I'm an 8 year old from Leeds and I like that Dr Who is a lady and I hope she speaks how I speak, is there a chance he'll listen?

What makes you say that? Based on what I've seen, she can pull off posh and colloquial in equal measure. I could see that working for her as the Doctor, maybe slipping into her Yorkshire accent when she gets excited.

I wish Amy used an English accent more often.
>>
>>85105077
>>85105407
I never quite believed the whole Capaldi thing being as easy as Moffat calling him up and inviting him to his house for a solo audition. I'm pretty sure they had auditions for both 12 and 13. It's easy to say you had someone in mind who you'd thought would be great and hey guess what, they turned out to be great. I think a lot of that is just spin talk to hype up the next Doctor.
They might've had certain people in mind, but I'm sure they had an audition for 12 where they invited older actors to see who was best, and an audition for 13 where they invited female actors to see who was best.
>>
>>85105437

Did Amy ever use an English accent?
>>
>>85105662
When do you see her pulling something that would fit the Doctor; Because I've watched Broadchurch twice. And extra content from her, and I'm still craving for that
>>
>>85105744
First episode when she's pretending to be a policewoman. Would have been cool if they brought it back for her acting incognito or something.
>>
Can any woman pull off angry in the way the Doctor requires? They're always bitching about something or other, but it's more akin to a poodle yapping.
>>
>>85105746
Rehearsed-sounding technobabble in posh RP, followed by a quick aside or some back-and-forth in her regional accent. This works in my brain but I could also see how it might get annoying, thank god I don't write for Doctor Who.
>>
>>85105846

I don't have any examples of her doing it no, I'm just speculating about how it could work.

Plus it would be nice to hear regional accents again. For a series about travelling through time and space and meeting people of all races and genders, everyone sure sounds like they're from London.

>>
>>85105746
I'll have to watch Broadchurch again, but her character there doesn't really lend much to Doctor-y stuff like technobabble etc. We see her cry, we see her mourn, we see her angry a couple of times. But not "Doctor" angry, more "mother angry with tears in her eyes because her son was murdered".
There's probably vague Doctor-y moments somewhere in her career but the Doctor is such a unique character that it's difficult or perhaps unfair to judge someone's ability to portray that character just from older footage.

They very likely had her do all kinds of Doctor-y acting during her audition, and she got the part, so we can all assume she was good at it. Like I said, it's a unique character and looking for Doctor moments is slightly unfair because there's no role like the Doctor to compare to.

Was there ever a bad casting in NuWho for the role of The Doctor? I have faith that the people in charge take this stuff very seriously and don't cast on merit or affinity.

Doctors aside, I remember us being pretty much united in dislike at the news of Matt Lucas getting a main role and look how that turned out. These people aren't stupid, they'd have a plan in mind.

I must be getting sleepy, I just glanced at that pic and thought it was Tennant and it reminded me of those rumours of them getting previous Doctors back as a "new" regeneration. It's been hinted at before, just like female regeneration was. But how likely do you think it is that we'll ever see Tennant return to the role? I know a load of tumblr fans have been flicking to this idea ever since he left but just how plausible is it?

I was only 12 when Eccleston kicked off the reboot in 2005 so I didn't really know him or his work that well. But through the years I've seen the sort of roles he does and in retrospect he does feel like an odd choice. But as you said, he turned out fantastic.

Smith was a weird choice as well when he was revealed. Hadn't seen him in anything, he looked a bit off. But I gave him a chance and The Eleventh Hour made me instantly love him as the Doctor.

This is why I believe in auditions and trust the BBC with their choices.
