Why we are spending huge amounts of money on making movies when the world is facing so many challenges like lack of healthcare , education, hunger, high poverty which needs to be addressed. Are not we utilising resources and wealth in wrong way rather than betterment in life of people?

"Wasting" is not the world. They are investment that most of the time get recovered. And they employee people. And they entertain people. See someone else playing a character is a very old thing, and now being global and all, it just get multiplied.
Also, divide those numbers between the marketing costs and the thousand that appear in credits and you will get the point.
