I'm hoping for a trans companion personally, whilst this is certainly a victory for equality it does have it's limits.
Doctor Who is still an overwhelmingly white show and we shouldn't be aiming to fix the "woman" problem and then the "gay/trans" problem- it needs to happen in tandem.
Otherwise we may find ourselves treating them as seperate issues and working to create a vision of progress that perpetuates the very imbalances we're fighting against.

There's no use on forcing things where they don't belong, like, for example, having an artist add to his/her painting every colour of the rainbow, because if some one were to be left over it would be oppressive against those colours and people would cry.
Here is the same: why having such complex concepts added to the show, merely because they exist in the real world, instead of leaving things as they are so they can work out more easily. After all, IT'S A WORK OF FICTION, having a trans Doctor wouldn't represent shit since Time Lords don't exist.
