You do realise waiting would have meant that they could never invade the USSR which is ideologically impossible for HItler.

The timing was perfect and waiting would have just lead to the Red Army being back together, their logistics fixed and their industry even further ahead of Germany's.
>>
>>85084644
>>85084726
>starting the capeshit craze
All Nolan did was popularize gritty capeshit. Richard Donner's Superman and Tim Burton's Batman got the ball rolling, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man started the modern capeshit craze, and Iron Man created the modern capeshit formula. Iron Man is the movie that fucked everything up.
>>
>>85084845
There are no close quarter fights in Dunkirk. There are no limbs flying from grenades or tanks. You will either see people drowning or dying in big numbers at once from stuka fly bys, just like what happened at the actual Dunkirk.

And if they go in later they're even less prepared, soviet industry would have outstripped them horribly if they waited a year, and the red army would have restructured and had actual officers again.

They have to go before the ice hits so they can get through the bits that become marsh when it melts before spring, if they don't go when they did they have to wait until next June.

The Red Army being in shambles was the best chance he had.

Most big budget films have review embargos by the studios. Wonder Woman is the most recent example.

Ofcourse an unknown sci fi film doesn’t have a review embargo because films like that prey that the critics will love it so they can advertise it as "Certified Fresh".
A Nolan film doesn’t need cheap marketing like that, he's name alone is enough.

WW2 was a collaborative effort from the Allies. We couldn't have done it without America but equally the British Air Force did an incredible job holding the Germans at bay. America/Canada never had to deal with the daily struggle that the UK did. Even gotta throw the Frenchies a bone for their resistance after they failed so epically earlier in the war.

>their 1 major goal
t. I know nothing about Hitler and his aspirations

Hitler happened to actually a hell of a lot more bent on avenging the humiliation he thought Germany had suffered from France, and a lot of what he did in his reconstruction of Germany were things he thought might bait France into a war against him. Hell, he prioritized seeking an entente with the USSR so he'd be hands-free for autistically pouring himself into his "revenge fantasy" against France, and by proxy too, Great-Britain.

Warring against the USSR presented itself as the rational option later on, yes, but only when he'd been bogged down to his West against the British isles, and the French and British in Africa.

(If Hitler had actually been whole-heartedly loyal to wanting to fighting the USSR, he should've peaced-out with the French who were fingers away from also waging war against the USSR for trying to conquer Finland).

> After teaching high school for quite a while, I took an M.A. in Film and Theater from Hunter College in New York and a Ph.D. in Theater from the City University Graduate Center, also in the Big Apple. Having sat through one innocuous Broadway show after another and a great deal of talky off-Broadway productions as a so-called second-night critic, I realized that you don't always get what you pay for. Broadway shows may be $75 a ticket and movies just $9.50 (in New York), but you're more likely to have fun AND take away something of substance from the big screen. The switch from reviewing theater to reviewing movies was an easy one to make. When my application for membership in the New York Film Critics Circle was circular-filed (print media only, sorry), I founded the Online Film Critics Society in January 1997 and three years later, NYFCO (New York Film Critics Online).

Fury would have been incredible if the Last Stand portion of the movie never existed, if they simply focused on a tank caught behind enemy lines struggling to survive, and when the tank dies the rest of them follows shortly after.

Because in movies like this, Fury should have been as much a character as Norman.

I’ve seen more exciting shots of aviation flights in “Thirty Seconds over Tokyo,” a real story in “Saving Private Ryan,” a plea to end wars in “All Quiet on the Western Front,” a mixture of humor with seriousness in “Good Morning, Vietnam.” In “The Bridge on the River Kwai,” the audience had good reason to breathe a sigh of relief when the Japanese supply train drops helplessly over the exploded bridge. “Dunkirk” lacks an overriding theme that could get the audience cheering or even a single thrill that could knock them out of their seats.

The rotten one:
>First, Nolan does not visually give the impression that the Allied forces were encircled by Germans, praying for a miracle and feeling that this battle could be their last.

>Second, and more important, Nolan employs non-linear filmmaking, avoiding the better approach—which would be chronological. Instead “Dunkirk” uses three separate settings, cutting furiously from one to the other for no apparent reason other than his ideological drive to be, well, nonlinear. With the appropriate chapter headings, at least at first, he opens with the scene on land about a week before civilian boats are to approach the port of Dunkirk. Slightly earlier he hones in on scenes of the sea, ultimately switching to the goings-on by air. In fairness Nolan had stated that he wanted to make a movie about war and not a war movie; that is, presumably to show in the most vivid, IMAX-aided way that war is hell. The result is simply confusion.

>Third, there is no humor whatever. Blink and you’ll discover maybe three women in the entire picture, one of them serving white bread and jam to the soldiers and one dishing out the cuppas.

>Fourth, there is no real story here, just men surviving or not under fire from torpedoes, bombs, and guns from the enemy whose faces we do not see at all—except for, maybe, some German spy who is traveling with the Allies. There’s nothing like the movies to present spectacle: theater cannot begin to approach vivid scenes in far-larger-than-life size. But everybody likes a story, and there is no story here.

Dishonest Filmmaking: (Damien Chazzele, Tarantino, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan, Alex Garland, Paul Thomas Anderson, Nicholas Refn, Tom Hooper, Tyler Perry, Rian Johnson, Alfonso Cuaron, Noah Baumbach, Andrea Arnold, David Yates, Denis Vilenueve, James Franco, Steve McQueen) are intellectually bankrupt moral whores and charlatans; their films appeal to the modern phenomenon of the 'Pretend Epic' or Pseudo Cinema, often tied to the criticism that "It was a movie that thought it was a film" they have no ideas of their own and are filmed purely to have fancy essays made about them. They obfuscate their lack of insight under a smug impenetrable irony and often contain scenes with disingenuous attempts at depth with characters spouting platitudes that the director takes VERY seriously
This directly panders to the IMDb reddit sensibility of quote circlejerking since these hacks are masters of the fools wit, "Quipping" (Not to be confused with the marvel co-opting of the word) , it sounds smart, cool and worldly but in reality there's nothing of substance, the Revenant's attempt at spiritualism was cheap and laughable and whilst someone like Malick has considered his philosophy, Inaurritu wears his introspection on his sleeve to give his film a false sense of depth with pathetic sermonizing

THIS is Dishonest Filmmaking

They leech the greater works that preceded them; like The Enemy being a rip off Eraserhead, but they have nothing else to say
They act under the guise of deconstruction with surface layer obvious 'social commentary' and a quirky forgettable score praised as 'innovative'. They are all inauthentic sycophants that rely on oscar buzz and post 9/11 detachment for relevance.

These directors are hacks and will be forgotten to time

Some notably earnest filmmakers include, but are not limited to:
Mike Leigh
The Coen Brothers
Werner Herzog
James Cameron
Mel Gibson
Terrence Malick
Gaspar Noe
Clint Eastwood

I have about as much respect for Nolan films as I do for the dogshit on my shoe. They're reddit. They're video game hotpocket. They're capeshit. They're cheeto dust. I'm literally screaming right now and slamming my arms down on my desk just thinking about it.

They're the most depraved video game infantilized manchild degeneracy. They're saturday morning cartoon. They're non-neurotypicality. They're memes. They're video game. They're tarantino. They're imdb.

I missed out on seeing Interstellar in theaters so this time I'm going all out and driving 90 minutes to Baltimore to see it in 70mm IMAX.
