Might as well remake a mediocre movie in the hopes of making something better with the concept than an already good movie you won't surpass
Then again I don't know how many people even know this is a remake of anything.

maybe the studio owns the rights and some guy wanted to write a script. the concept isnt bad so why not make a movie with it.
