I mean, I get where you're coming from, yeah the classic origin story thing is much more personal, but to claim that that's all that Spider-Man is about is pretty bullshit.
There wouldn't be a point in having Spider-Man comics to begin with, if that were the case. You can't have every comic revolve around that one event in his life. Sure, the core of the event, the cost of innaction is a huge part of Spidey's character that isn't spelled out the same way in this movie as it is in his origin story, but it is demonstrated to be a core element of his character.
He repeatedly refuses to not take action, both to demonstrate independence, but also to protect people. Instead of just setting up this element of his character via an origin story, the movie punishes him for it in multiple ways, and shows him power through those consequences, which establishes the core of his character just as well.

To me, it actually feels better that his motivation isn't locked down into one event. It's one of those things that can make a character very petty or flanderize them. If anyone, Spidey shouldn't become like Batman, where they took the source of a character trait and made it into the character trait.

Given that "decades old comics" were his reference and inspiration, his Spidey is totally in line with that of what he read. Besides, Spider-Man is buff during the Silver Age, but everybody that SHOULD be bigger IS bigger than he is. Noticeably so. He was NEVER massive, but neither is Raimi's Spider-Man. Raimi's Spider-Man just has noticeable muscle. Silver Age Pete was noticeably smaller as Spider-Man during his teenage years, but he got bigger overtime as he grew up. That's reasonable. The example given is for Spidey during his college years, which is in line with Raimi's Peter.

Modern comics either make Pete a little on the muscular side or DYEL. Spider-Man should not be DYEL. Tobey's physique lines up decently with Spider-Man, old and new. He's not massive by any means.

I hated how they did Uncle Ben's death in ASM1 and I would have enjoyed that movie more if perhaps they didn't show the Ben dying or did something else to make it seem less ridiculous: but to me this is such an amazing suit.

Looks really good in dark lit parts of the movie and it made me wish this movie had some gritty feel to it and the scenes when Spiderman is tracking down Uncle Ben's killer were longer kind of like if anyone played the video game of Sam Raimi's Spiderman 1 and first couple levels is Parker hunting for the killer. That would have been great

Why are people saying that Peter's supposed to be a twink? Most the comics draw him with a good build, whether he's in high school or an adult. Raimi's looks the best because he looks fit and built without looking like a bodybuilder. He looks how I think someone who's a physically active superhero would look.

Raimi's Spider-man will always be my favorite Spider-man. His version wasn't a quipping PG-13 rated clown version of Deadpool. He was heroic, and knew when his life was in the line when he was fighting, so he was quietly focused on that. All the other versions wanted to be the annoying comic Spider-man with his lame jokes, uninspired insults, and pathetic banter.
