Not at all. Okinawa/Iwo Jima were exceptions to the rule of the island hopping campaigns.

One way or another the Japanese merchant marine fleet was going to be at the bottom of the pacific and the Japanese weren't adding tonnage anywhere near replacement levels. They never developed a proper ASW doctrine and you could argue that it was the only successful submarine campaign in history because the nation it was waged against didn't believe destroyers should be used to escort supply ships.

The Japanese were a sad joke in WW2 that got lucky and bit off more than they could chew in the first 6 months of the war.

Rabaul was the most fortified position in Japan's defensive island line and it was completely bypassed and starved out by the end of the war.

The UK had thousands of planes ordered from the US and never got them until years later in the war because the US had to use them. The biggest losses in the Atlantic theater were when America officially joined the war and safe zones for convoys were no longer there.

Think about what Britain did for 500 years in continental wars, they gave the boots, guns, ammunition to armies and it was more useful than actually putting boots on the ground. in 1914-1941 America was now in the role of the British as the great world creditor and supplier. Practically every ship in WWII had 20mm Swedish Bofors guns and 40mm Swiss Oerlikons. The ammunition for each was made under license with a royalty. Every time the Japs fired their Bofors at the U.S. planes they swedes got like a nickle a round, and when the U.S. fired theirs at the Jap planes the Swedes got another nickle.
