Here's my .02 cents.

Here is the thing:

I'd be OK with a female doctor if it wasn't for the timing and the amount of BS that has been happening with the writing the last two years.

As-is? This was a poor move on the BBC's part and feels like a "shock value" sort of deal to get people talking and to show how "progressive" they are.

Again, Moffat isn't doing this.

The first episode will be mostly dedicated to the Doctor going through an identity crisis and in the end accepting he's a female now. He's prolly gonna have a moment where someone asks who she is and she says "I'm the Doctor" to put a pretty bow on it.

Honestly. Capaldi was a great doctor and i recall him being recieved positively from the beginning, but the series saw a drop of interest with him, not because of his acting, but because the stories were less interesting. Similarly, i just hope the new stories are good. This last season had several episodes which simply didn't interest me, regardless of my best efforts to like them.
Anyway, making a risky choice while ratings are down was an unwise idea
