Post some of your favourite British comedians. I'll start.

Stand-up's quite good, one of the best at dealing with hecklers, like him in Cats does Countdown etc.

That fucking laugh. He never used to do that early on, it just suddenly appeared. He's said that's how he's always laughed and that he was too shy to do it when he started out on telly but I'm not sure. Feels more like a showbiz laugh, not genuine.

The current generation of female comedians are shite. French and Saunders were good, so was Catherine Tate.

But all these new female comedians can't seem to get it into their heads that they can talk about OTHER things than "being a woman" or "liking cake" or "periods". They're doing it to themselves. Talk about anything, like male comedians do. Funny anecdotes, observational comedy, good routines. But they all make a point of being female by talking about exclusively female problems etc, when they really don't need that to be funny. Just write jokes and routines like every comedian does.
>>

>>85035985
I saw him live once too, it was amazing. There was some heckling going on which was incredibly annoying and Moran was obviously angry and so was the audience. But apart from that, I laughed so, so much.

I fucking hate drunk hecklers. I've paid good money and set aside time to see a comedian and this pissed fuckhead just shouts random shit at the comedian, ruining the pace of the show and the experience in general of the entire audience.

I see a lot of people complaining about him derailing things on QI and why do they let him on, I wonder if they don't know it's a character.

I was honestly amazed that it's all a facade. I used to watch him on stuff like QI and wonder if I should laugh at him or feel sorry for him, what with those random outbursts and cries for help. Turns out, all an act. Well, you fooled me, Pennington.

That was sort of the point of the question. It's impressive the amount of female comedians they shove into panels nowadays and they're all pretty horrible. You get ^10 more fun out of women in panels that aren't comedians because they're not trying too hard. I don't think I'm being despondent here but there's only one chick where I go "that's cool she's on" and it Aisling (who herself is often trying to hard but it sorta works).

Good point actually. I generally enjoy a woman on a panel show more when she's not a comedian (ergo, trying so hard). Could be a presenter, actress, anything. I think I got more laughs off "random female MP of the week" on HIGNFY than off of professional female comedians.

He took it like a champ. Obviously he was very carefully briefed and advised on how to deal with that whole scandal. But basically, whenever someone takes the piss out of him about tax he just quietly nods his head, as I'm sure he was told to do. But he doesn't shy away from it either and often makes a comment when tax evasion comes up, saying how it's a slippery slope etc.

He somehow got away with it perfectly. No one seems to care and he's still on telly and on tour all the time. Must be quite a good team behind him, because this could've killed his career stone dead.
>>
>>85039955
I hope the recent surge of popularity will finally makes the BBC see sense and commission more Shooting Stars.
>>
Has there been any good British comedy in the past 10 years?

I can't think of any show or comedian that started after 2007 that's really good.
>>
I feel like there's a difference between good stand ups and people who are good on panel shows.

There is some cross over for the masters, like Sean Locke or Ross Noble, but I wouldn't want to see Limmy on a panel show. I think he was on HIGNFY and it was clear he needed material and wasn't so great at the spontaneous stuff.

Paul Foot's another one, I think. Stunning and hilarious stand up, not so great when generally entertaining.

>Inside Number 9
I would go as far as to say this is one of the best series in existence. And good job from the BBC to recommission it even though the ratings are terrible. Quality over quantity. I honestly can't describe how much I love Inside no. 9.
The writing is amazing, the premise gives the freedom of setting it anywhere, any time as each episode is standalone. It's hilarious and unnerving in a way no show has done before and every episode is completely original. I'm sounding like a stupid fanboy, I know, but I just can't stress enough how amazing it is.
>>
>>85041259
There's definitely a difference between stand-up and panel shows. I know it's all controversial and stuff but I really enjoy Michael McIntrye's stand-up DVDs, but whenever he's on a panel show or even an interview, you can seem him trying to push a bit of his stand-up routine in. He's good when he's doing a rehearsed set of routines, but not good at being off-the-cuff.

Some comedians are brilliant at both, but you often see that some need prepared material and can't work with live comedy and bouncing off each other and stuff. I love David Mitchell but I don't think he'd be a good stand-up. I enjoy his sketches and his personality and rants etc, but I doubt he'd be much good doing a 90 minute gig of prepared routines.
>>

His stand-up is only okay, but Lee Mack on Would I Lie To You is top-tier comedy kino

>Richard Ayoade,

I love him but he really only knows how to do dry humour, which he does superbly. Been watching Travel Man on YT been pretty good.

>My uncle got struck off the medical register for shaggin' a patient. It's a shame, since he was a real good vet.

Spot on. Pretty top list there, but Sean Locke is ace. Loved 15 storeys high.

Honestly I hate Lena Dunham, but the episode with her (at least the restaurant) looked really good.

Snuff box was excellent. Nice to see Fulcher not being Bob Fossil.

I'm always a fan of Rhod Gilbert. And Rob Brydon's old stand up stuff is good too.

I feel the same way. His sitcom is fucking painful. He's really good at reactive comedy. Quick.

Kevin Bridges is my favourite. He's great in stand up and on panel shows. It's a shame some people can't comprehend him because he has some great stuff.

He was fucking great in the episode he hosted of buzzcocks too, I'll be damned if it doesn't show his extremely quick wit.
>I dunno but it sounds shit
>yeah you wouldn't like it none of the words rhyme
