What are some films/movies you recently found that you've conisder gems. Found this on Netflix. Real spoopy, my dudes.
>based on a richard matheson novel
huh
This is actually on Netflix? I literally never found any movie worth watching there so I cancelled my sub.
>>85015616
Yes it is. I founnd it under the horror category. I think I remember it from a yms review of The Haunting and how it was inspired by the movie. Very fuckin suspenseful.
>>85015616
dont worry it's probably been taken down by now and replaced with 50 stand up specials
>>85014143
classic
>>85014143
I'm not sure what the threshold is for a gem. Pic related is a great movie and I've only ever met 2 other people who have seen it. In terms of what /tv/ thinks is a gem tho, I have no clue.
>>85016241
Super comfy war flick
>>85014143
Obligatory.

Fuck it. I'll dump 5 genuine hidden gems.

Would like to see this remade with Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller.
No idea why.

This was breddy gud

Some actual Owen Wilson
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Goruaj8hhY
not sure if this is considered a gem but I never hear it being talked about
>>85016579
Fook it. I'll keep going. Some of these will be less Hidden, or less Gem.
>>85016532
Since you're posting some Classic Weaving, try this one on for size.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TAWABi80Z0
Genuinely unnerving.
>>85016610
Because it's pretty bad/generic 90's supernatural thriller.
HOWEVER, it does contain fantastic cinematography which was much emulated in it's day.
>>85016634
Can't even find a trailer for this gem.
Here's a scene instead.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7ts2yC5lBo
dunno about objective quality but I had a blast with it. Sort of like a more modern Hackers
>>85016695
Some 80's (maybe early 90's) action cheese with a /tv/ bent.
Features possibly the funniest pedophile gang rape scene of all time.
https://youtu.be/QbukKgngDCw
>>85014143
If that's only half as good as the poster I'd say it's well worth a look.
>>85016736
This is a little less Hidden (GET IT), but I only see it rarely posted on /tv/ despite it being a fantastic entry in the 80's sci-fi action canon. Surprised it hasn't been remade yet.

The Interview is truly magnificent.
Dead Mary (2007)
It sounds bad when you read to synopsis or watch the trailer, but it's really good.
It's Evil Dead with the paranoia of The Thing meets The Big Chill and Dèmoni.
>>85016765
The poster is very misleading. It's a slow burn haunting movie.
Anyway;
>>85016776
Onto the next.
This one is NOT a gem. BUT it's interesting. It's something that should have been really good, but was poorly directed. But there is still a lot of good stuff in there and if you're the right age when you see it, it might work for you.

>>85016818
Overselling much? Now I'll have to check it out and be disappointed.
>>85016841
Last one;
This has probably been posted a bunch solely because of the poster. But it's a genuinely good late night movie - despite Ben Stiller claiming it was his worst film. It's definitely not.

and Fifty/Fifty (1992)
cliché plot of 2 mercenaries getting a conscience and helping the locals, but it's with Peter Weller and Robert Hays and they're great and have incredible chemistry together.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiuVYf1YDd8
>>85016894
Okay, one more;
I don't think this is a gem at all, but for whatever reason whenever I've recommended it to someone on /tv/ they have liked it.

How is not dying and going to hell worse than dying and going to hell?
Dying and going to hell would be an eternal deal, whereas if you went to hell not dead, at least you could look forward to dying.
>>85016904
Hmmm. Haven't seen this one. On the list it goes.
>>85016894
If I don't oversell, you'll never watch it. It's low budget and the first part is more character driven. It pays off in the second part.
What if told you is was with Lolita and started with a foot close-up scene?
>>85016949
Maybe it's like inception - You're in hell, you die, and then you go to hell within hell, which would conceivably be worse than regular hell.
Maybe the implication is that most people will die past retirement age, therefore they get to live a long life prior to hell, whereas this guy is skipping most of the life and death part and just going straight to hell.
Lots of variables.
>>85016996
Your first pitch was better since I've never b8ted to Dominique Swane(ine?)
>>85016904
and to top it off and mix both genre:
The Zero Boys (1986)
The trailer is missleading, it's not an action movie. It's a slasher. Pretty good one with some really good cinematography.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbIZtrOOv7k
not sure if this is a gem either. Not particularly well made or well shot but comfy as all get out.
>>85017086
I was really let down by The Zero Boys. It had so many good ingredients, but I don't think it really came together. The opening was fucking gold though - Using girlfriends as tradeable goods when gambling.
>>85017073
I like her as a grown up a lot more. She was too thin as a teen for my taste back then.
>>85016965
How about the 2 Exterminator movies?
The first one is great, it's very Death Wish/Mack Bolan/Punisher. The second one is okay but not as good.
Or the movie McBane with Christopher Walken?
>>85017166
Yeah, seen them and loved them. They were actually immensely popular when I was a kid in the VHS day because of the posters and they had a notoriety for violence.
They were on Eberts "BAN THIS SICK FILTH" lists alongside I Spit On Your Grave and such.
I actually genuinely like them - They have the grime and sleaze of other NYC produced crime/horror flicks from the early 80's, but unlike, say, Combat Shock, the first one is a briskly entertaining action flick. Not as slick as the Death Wish flicks, but still fun.
I've actually never seen McBane OR Remo Williams. Had them on my CG hard drive prior to it crashing. Sucks.
>>85017252
Remo is great, but very silly in parts. It's a movie where being a master at martial arts makes you able to run on water. The books are better.
Still, the Statue of Liberty fight is great.
McBane was average, but Chris Walken is always fun to watch when he's trying to act like a good guy.
Not sure if Reanimator is considered hidden, but I never hear anyone talk about it
>>85016241
Wow that cast!
>>85017500
lurk moar
>>85019643
Growing up watching solely Matthau's comedic movies, seeing him in dramatic roles as a hardboiled gangster is so weird.
>>85014143
Check out The Haunting if you enjoyed Hell House. The black and white one, not the shit one with Liam Neesons and Catherine Zeta Jones.
I've seen this a couple times on /tv/ but I think it's a good rec. It's the first movie from the director of Take Shelter and Mud. It's sort of a revenge story but don't go in expecting a lot of violence. Also, Michael Shannon is great in it like always.
