Blood and Chrome had an interesting premise. And I'll admit, I was pretty hyped to see the Galactica in full-blown war mode dhuring her prime. I'll even say the concept of human betraying the Colonies for the Cylons had some potential
But in the end it was nothing but a CGI fest of nothing.
You finish watching it and you feel like nothing's been accomplished.

Caprica was just plain crap.
The fact that it was canned after the first season proves that.
People went in expecting to see the origins of the Cylons, the uprising and the beginning of the war and what we got was teenage angst, theological debate and some gangster bullshit

I absolutely adore the show, but it became fairly obvious that they were just making shit up as they went, throwing stuff out and thinking "we'll get back to that when we decide what the fuck is going on"

Well yeah, but name a single TV show that ran for >= 5 years that that doesn't apply to. There just isn't enough time to write your entire show before you pitch a pilot, especially when you consider most pitches are rejected.

Yeah, you notice that with a lot of plot threads.
For example in Season 1 everything's rather neatly put together and self-contained with consistency and quality. Okay there's the God stuff but putting that to one side.

Then look at the later seasons. For example, there's the magic virus that kills Cylons that was left by humans on the way to the 13th colony who were actually Cylon themselves which is never mentioned again.
There's the Chief's union gig which is never mentioned again.
There's the war between Gaius' followers and the Sons of Ares which lasts all of 10 minutes and goes nowhere.

24 was well written but it also had a very specific formula, and whenever they found themselves in a corner they just discovered someone else was running a higher level plan and the current guy was a patsie/henchman for the real villain, or a mole in CTU. Formulaic shows like that are just better at disguising their true nature.
