Insider info here:
Both Kris and Jodie are cast. The gimmick is that something goes wrong with the regen and the Doctor wastes two regens on two bodies.
There's no "original" body and the "true" doctor since both doctors came from the original body that's gone, Chibs is even working on some Adam & Eve symbolism with them.
The idea is that it will end with them being told that one of them is the Valeyard, but not exactly which one.
The BBC plans to make whoever is the less popular of the two into the Valeyard.

I don't think a female doctor, as powerful as The Doctor is, with no personality flaws or issues whatsoever will be fun to watch and quite frankly it may finally kill the series. Now the question will be how the audience will receive a pycho/depressed woman as The Doctor. My guess is that the older/more conservative audience may feel a bit deterred to such character.

Do people honestly think Chibbs/whoever else would be retarded enough to write a character like this? Which would make episodes all the more interesting. IMHO the writers in NuWho like to wank the Doctor and his abilities too hard, making him this unbeatable, hyper-intelligent, probability-manipulating genius who's able to resolve most situations as easily as you and I would add or subtract. Compare this to the old series, where there were tons of moments in which the Doctor would be captured more often or hell, was even in danger of dying multiple times. The closest episode of NuWho to capture this aspect of the old series was Midnight. We need a lot more episodes where people don't automatically trust the Doctor or do whatever he tells them to; this way, the Doctor has to work harder to achieve his/her motives.
