Am I the only person in the world who has a problem with this shit?
I've been looking for critical analysis about Spider-Man Homecoming, but every video on YouTube is basically jerking off over it or just turned their brains off during the movie.
Why is Spider-man, a working class hero, now bankrolled by Tony Stark? Why is he running around in what's basically an Iron Man suit?
Why does the film have no emotional resonance? There is no tragedy to shape Peter Parker's character, and instead of trying to balance his responsibilities, he just wants to fuck off high school and become a famous Avenger. He's constantly saying how he's "above" helping the little guy and how he wants to go on big missions, even after Civil War let us know that he strives to help the little guy. The film never even showed Spider-man actually fighting street-level crime, it just turned it into another joke.
What are his motivations to be a hero? The film loves to tell instead of show; Uncle Ben isn't referenced at all, even though Peter's intense guilt over the death of his uncle is one of the biggest parts of the character and motivations.
Why does Spider-man (the character, not the film) need a quirky suit AI? Why does he need a surveillance mode? Why does he need an interrogation mode? Where is his Spider Sense? Why is he basically Batman now?
After watching it again last night, even The Amazing Spider-Man got everything right better than this shit.

Spider-Man is my favourite comic book character of all time, and seeing everyone jerk off over this movie because "LOL FAT ASIAN SAID PORN" and "LOL IRON MAN XD" and seeing the film ignore everything that makes Peter Parker/Spider-Man a compelling character makes me feel very sad that THIS is the version that's gonna stick around. No more reboots for at least a decade. It feels hollow and empty, like a cheap greasy cheeseburger.
