Alex needs to put up Dom and Matt, to cause a rift in that big alliance which her, whistlenut, Ramses and jess can slip into. She already knows Mark is close to Dom and would vote to keep her while elena and Raven would vote to keep Matt. That move would instantly show where people's loyalties were and cause dissension.
