Is it a meme or does it actually make a difference?
>>
Nothings been mastered in 4K so it doesn't mean anything and won't mean anything for about a decade, if ever.
>>
It's actually really great, desu.

But HDR, laddie.

Also, we'll get 4K remasters of every Nolan film later on.
Hopefully, the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of The Dark Knight Rises gets cracked and we finally get Baneposting in 4K.
>>
>>84934956
Film negatives can be displayed up to 8k
>>
>>84934956
There is a ton of 35mm stuff with 4K scans.

Disgusting

>>84934880
HDR refers to more contrast in the video, and using 10bits for the alpha channel instead of 8, allowing for more range of colors. Try taking pics with your phone with HDR on and HDR off and look at the difference
>>
>>84934880
It's a bigger meme than blu-ray
>>
Good for porn 2bh

>Nothings been mastered in 4K
That is simply a fat out lie.

>ywn live in a future where all movies and porn is filmed in 8K HDR VR Smellovision

/g/entooman here, while HDR has it's advantages, 4k is 100% a meme. The resolution isn't as important as the pixel density and viewing distance. If you sit considerably far enough (average living room distance), you will notice absolutely no difference between 1080p and 4k, if the panels are around the same quality. I even go as far as saying that a good 1080p panel > shitty 4k panel.
>>
Still waiting for 16K

Peter Jackson's King Kong with HDR is so comfy. Absoute kino during those sunset scenes.

>a good 1080p panel > shitty 4k panel
this is true. You'd have to be retarded to buy a non HDR 4k TV
> If you sit considerably far enough (average living room distance), you will notice absolutely no difference between 1080p and 4k, if the panels are around the same quality.
now this is flat up bullshit. Every time someone new comes over and I have it on channel 104 they make comments about how great and clear it looks without even knowing it's a 4k channel

4K with HDR is a great upgrade... Gotta got big though with at least 60" preferably 65" and up. The OLED models are top tier but the cost is retarded and they are trash for gaming but for a home theater are nearly perfect.

Funny enough a lot of the 2016 models are better than the new ones since the tv market is stupid and relies on marketable events or gimmicks to push sales and in between uses inferior parts to increase profits.

>OLED TVs are garbage for gaming
>LG's OLEDs have the least input lag and have really deep CRT-tier black levels which are perfect not only for HDR, but also retro games
Don't get me wrong, retro games still look better on a CRT, especially if said CRT supports RGB SCART or Component YPbPr.
But OLED TVs are probably the best TVs on the market now and you are stupid if you say that they are trash for gaming.

You must be confused.

how did people ever get this dumb opinion?
