Just rewatched the two previous ones for the first time earlier this week, first one is much better than I remember it to be while the second wasn't as great as I remember it to be.

Just got out of a pre-screening. "Masterpiece" may be a bit excessive, but it was good. I've gone into all 3 of these movies now expecting them to suck and coming out surprised.
I think Caesar is the most likeable original protagonist in film since Dawn premiered. These movies really capture a lot of emotion, and it's quite impressive considering the absurd source material.

It's definitely the best of the trilogy. It will probably be the best big budget wide release of the year, period.

I had a few minor problems with the script -
Caesar's weak ass death via random asshole with a crossbow, Nova being happy and celebrating with the apes when she is obviously a mistreated unimportant slave in the original - but they couldn't overshadow the fantastic direction, sound design, and especially the soundtrack. Which is something you don't really pay attention to in blockbusters unless it's a gimmick. In this movie it stood out, felt old fashioned in a good way. It's at times very dramatic and loud, specifically when the Colonel kills Caesar's family, like the movie is not at all ashamed of being a movie. There isn't a hint of irony or winking at the audience, they still play this goofy concept straight to the bitter end.

I loved it. Got this awesome mini poster too.

I still think 1 is the best in terms of overall shock/wow factor. That NO scene alone is worth the ticket price.

That being said, 2 and 3 is still really well made movies and I'm glad they didn't pull punches. I think 3 slightly edges out 2 in my book although 2 had more action and Koba shenanigans.
