The story for most survivors on 9/11 is "I saw the second plane and got the fuck out of lower Manhattan". The extraordinary stories have already been told beautifully by the subjects themselves in various documentaries. A cgi plane crashing into a cgi buildinf wont look impressive, nor will it evoke too much emotion, when we can all go look at the real thing on youtube. I'm sure an entertaining 9/11 movie can be made, with it showing rescuers going in, and trying to get panicked people out. It can dramatize the sense of utter doom and hopelessness was that started to see in, as the occupants realized they were in some tower of hell from no escape. All the choosing to jump out to their deaths, and last minute phone calls. It can be a great tragedy film; It can be as powerful as a Schinder's List or Pianist, but it's simply 'too soon' for most Amerifats to see a film that we deserve.
