I think that's the single worst moment in capseshit history. I love the movie for what it is, but that scene has single-handedly fucked up the popular image of Superman for all time.

It embraced and standardized the comic-book stupidity of Superman pulling a power out of his ass to instantly save the day with no consequences. Superman is best when he has limits, and it took the entire tentative theme of "even Superman can't do everything" and threw it out the fucking window and took a shit on it. He ignored the warning from his father and there were no consequences. It was just plain stupid.

That scene is the reason that nobody will ever be satisfied with an interesting, imperfect Superman. Everyone will forever expect him to be Christopher Reeve and to fly back in time and fix everything, every time.

Agree. I thought the theatrical cut was just OK, but the ultimate cut was great, and the more I watch it the more satisfying I realize it is. Most other capeshit gets old on a second viewing, but BvS is still entertaining because Snyder is a great cinematographer and the whole thing looks and sounds gorgeous, and the character motivations are complex and relateable from all sides if you're willing to drop your preconceptions about everything.

I know that most praise for the movie immediately gets deflected as bait, and it's a shame. The movie isn't flawless, but there's a lot of really good stuff in it that is completely unappreciated because of the whole "NOT MUH" attitude that modern capeshit has fostered.

That really is one of the biggest mental blocks people have in getting into the film. They refuse to believe that Batman might be wrong. They refuse to see him as flawed on that level.

The thing is, he was dealing with such a crazy situation. Everything is normal for most of your life, and then one day gods fall from the sky and start fighting in the fucking streets. The one who lived claims to be your friend, but fuck... what if he isn't? End of humanity! The line "If there is even a one percent chance he might turn against us, then we have to take it as an absolute certainty" sums it up. Everyone in the audience sits there like "Fucking retard, it's SUPERMAN,duh", but Batman doesn't have that meta-perspective.

Batman was a great villain. He was the kind of villain you can't really fault. His motivation for formulating a plan was completely justified, and Lex pushed him over the edge to actually use it. It was great.
