oh fuck it I'm not getting the usb cord, I'll just describe it to you.

Alright, it's a cavern like basement illuminated by the midday sun shining in through the only unblocked window, for it is summer time and I am hot. I am wearing a shirt, half torn off because I was hot and too lazy to remove it normally.

Before me are two screens, side by side. One is a touch screen, all in one desktop computer and the other is a regular flat screen television connected by HDMI. I have paused Yu-Gi-Oh Dark side of dimensions to type this and put on an Evangelion music video, my favourite anime song and second favourite overall.

Littered around the table are the following items: an empty pepsi bottle, an empty blue teapot, a mug of Asuka Soryu holding a mug, a figurine of Ryuko Matoi running to the beach, an xbox one controller, a bent pen, a swiss army knife, blade out, an empty cigar case, a microphone, a broken phone with an Asuka case, a snes controller with the wire exposed, a flashlight, cologne, a cheque from the government, a set of keys I found on the ground and haven't bothered to return, a set of washroom keys to pilfer toilet paper/paper towels from public restrooms, a broken watch, the new testament, an empty soda cracker bag, and that's pretty much all.

obviously light from the T.V. didn't transfer well. Usually i watch movies in the dark but will have some lights on half for games, cable, etc. heres a little rundown of the system

T.V.: Sony X850c 65""
Soundbar: Definitive Technology Studio Micro
Devices: Verizon Cable Box, Xbox one, PS4 Pro, Sega dreamcast

love this setup and from experience Sony T.V.s are the best at upscaling low res content. Seriously i just plugged my dreamcast into the RCA jacks on the back and its way better than those 20-30 dollar upscalers on amazon.

>>
>>84893104
yeah I know but I'm still wonderin, what's the matter with all these manchilds nowadays?
>>
>>84893191
There's nothing the matter. Most people are single, and they're just expressing their interests. You're just seeing more of their "caves" now thanks to the internet.

There's nothing more "adult" about one set of interests over another. One person might like reading, another might like working out, some like the outdoors, some like tinkering and electronics, and other like cartoons, anime, and video games. As long as they all wake up and go to work, pay their own bills, and groom and feed themselves, there's nothing "childish" about them.

Now, the neckbeards who still live with their parents and work a part time McJob, making their less conventional interests their entire identity, who rely on their parents for housework and food? They're absolutely manchildren (or feminists, SJWs, liberals, etc.). But they're hardly the majority, or even a blip on the radar. Next time an anime convention is in town, chances are that less than half of the people there are manchildren, and they're probably ALL the ones from the surrounding cities.

Once we take the consoles out of storage and set them up, I'm planning to get an RCA switch, since the TV doesn't have nearly enough inputs.

I'm >>84895505, my TV is fine.

Antenna to TV works, but I use a converter box for the PVR and TV guide, since the TV itself doesn't have those capabilities. The only issue is that a lot of the boxes don't support analog, or if they do, only analog passthrough (basically the analog stations only work when the converter is off).

Now, analog stations don't broadcast program info or anything, which is fine, but I'd like to just deal with one thing (the converter box) for all my stations instead of having them fragmented (converter box for digital, TV (with the box off) for analog). It's not a big issue, just something that makes the whole experience more pleasant.

Because that's how they were designed, to give people with analog-only TV's access to digital signals. No point in putting an analog tuner in them. You're shit out of luck on this one, unless you're willing to use a splitter.
>>
>>84899502
Sacrifice nothing, all newer TVs have a built-in digital converter. I can get all the channels (analog AND digital) regardless of whether or not I have a converter box.

I just use a box for the guide and PVR (digital stations only), which are just convenient enough features that I want to keep them.

The odds of you finding one with analog passthru are almost zero.

Buy a 2 way splitter. Run the antenna main to the input. On the outputs, run one to a converter box, run the other direct to the tv coax connector. The converter boxes usually come with composite cables to hook it up to the tv.
>>
>>84907104
Okay, but that still involves switching inputs. Most support analog passthrough, but few support analog alongside digital, which is what I'm looking for.

In the case of a passthrough, you watch everything by changing the channel on the converter box, until you want to watch analog, when you need to turn off the box and change channels on the TV instead.

Connecting the box with RCA instead of coax just makes it even more irritating, AND takes up an RCA (or HDMI) jack.
>>
>>84898847
>i cant find one with analog support

>>84907622
>most support analog passthrough

???
>>
>>84908034
Analog passthrough =/= analog support.

Passthrough works as a...well...pass THROUGH. You use the box for the guide, PVR, and to change channels for digital. Passthrough only works when the box is OFF, by "passing" the signal "through" the box to the TV as normal, as though the box isn't there.

What I'm looking for is one where the box works for ALL channels - both digital AND analog. As it stands, passthrough means you need to turn the box off, then change channels on the TV itself for the analog stations. A box with full analog support would mean everything is handled in one place - the box, rather than passthrough where you need to use the box AND the TV's switcher itself.

>>84908143
A splitter would split the signal into two outputs, which is unnecessary. Analog and digital are picked up by the same antenna (read: literally any). And if you have a newer TV, they can natively playback digital AND analog stations.

What I'm looking for is a converter box (or receiver, whichever term you prefer) that has functions not on my TV (i.e., guide, PVR), which can playback digital AND analog (the same as the TV is natively capable).

Unfortunately most boxes seem to be digital-only, which is odd since the analog signals are still picked up by the TV (which can also play digital).

I'm not looking for a guide from the analog broadcasts, since that wouldn't work. I just want a box that can do the do for digital (as most all of them can), but that can ALSO display the analog signals (which, again, the TV does natively, and the box can pass the signal through).
>>
>>84904632
sunbathe in the day and watch movies in the night
>>
>>84908099
Here's the thing. You have a very unique situation. The vast majority of broadcasters who went digital shut down their analog broadcasts. The makers of these boxes are not gonna dump extra time and money into making them do a side by side conversion. The cost of manufacturing the boxes would be higher. Which makes the purchase cost higher. And it's such a niche market for demand, that they would lose money stocking shelves with them.

The majority of folks are going for a cheap box to convert signal, and maybe record. That's it. So my suggestion would be stop whining and grab a splitter.
>>
>>84908285
Yes, but not all broadcasters went to digital. The majority in my city are still using analog.

And a splitter wouldn't do anything in this situation. The analog signal still works via the passthrough method. A splitter would only bypass the box for the passthrough (which still displays the digital via the TVs built-in converter, but with no features), and take up an extra RCA (or HDMI) jack for the box.

I'm not really whining so much as I'm looking for what should be a very basic product. The analog signal requires no extra equipment or conversion (as is evident with the passthrough), so it makes no sense that virtually no boxes will allow viewing of the analog ad digital broadcasts alongside one another.

How is typing out a reply to dense anons "crying"? Also, what I'm looking for is hardly "very specific". Outside of the major cities, most stations are still analog (in my country, at least), and it's not a stretch that some boxes would include full analog support rather than just the passthrough..

I'm saying that the passthrough function works fine, and that a splitter just wastes my money and an RCA jack.

I'm just looking for recommendations on a box that could support analog (fully) and digital. It's not my fault that you don't get that and are throwing a fit. You didn't need to reply, and keep replying. All I've been doing is explaining the exact same thing to you over and over because you're too dense to understand the simple concept of OTA broadcasts on different bands, or how TV tuners work.

Still looking for recommendations if anybody's experienced a similar situation and knows of a box that plays nicely with analog.

What percentage of those dvds are anime?

There probably are. I've been checking around Plebbit's OTA sub and a few /g/-suggested sites, but haven't had any luck (yet).

Figured I'd try asking ITT since it was sort of related.

THEY. DO. NOT. MAKE. A. BOX. LIKE. WHAT. YOU. ARE. LOOKING. FOR.

jesus how many different ways can we tell you that? you are whining because we keep giving you the answer, but you keep disregarding the answer because its not the one you want.

I hooked up cable for over a decade. Think I know what I'm talking about. Everyone here is right. You will not find a A2D box with the specs you want.
