Is this movie as derivative of Drive as it seems to be from previews?
>>84883684
everything post 2011 is derivative of drive
>>84882815
anyone got the "times i acted like baby driver" pasta?

It was like, 7.5/10. Not even the best Edgar Wright.
It's just me, I know, but in a car movie, you show. And Edgar Wright's editing style is pretty much the antithesis. He likes to edit with a pace and energy where the audience kind of fills in the blanks - a car goes up an incline, we see it's tires screech across the asphalt, the car is now driving after a drastic turn. We never see the airtime, just the before after - which works in his other movies. He'll have punches and smacks and reactions hidden behind clever timing and SFX.
But for a car movie, it's basically unsuited, IMO. The movie is ultimately more about a driver than about driving, which I think is a missed opportunity, (despite the reality, of course it's about a driver).
So, if we look at the movie ignoring that it wasn't simply car porn, what do we have? Some hammy lines from Spacey, weird exchanges, cute awkwardness, ok soundtrack, fun characters, and ultimately, nothing all that special.
I liked it. But I like Hot Fuzz/Shaun of the Dead/Scott Pilgrim better

Yes, it's pretty much Drive x Whiplash x Guardians of the Galaxy
it's a contemporary picture by all accounts
And the semifinal battle with Kevin Spacey is 100% drive homage

It kept my interest, which is a dicey prospect with most movies these days with me T B H. I wouldn't call it amazing but probably safely in the top 25% of movies I've seen this year.
>>84882815
>saved modern cinema
It was a good movie, but don't get carried away and fag it up like that.
>>84883886
>The movie is ultimately more about a driver than driving
>movie is called Baby Driver
>surprised the movie is about a driver named Baby
Wow, just end films now, kid.
>>84883684
plotwise, maybe
stylisitically they couldn't be more different
When I first heard about baby driver I thought it meant something sexually
>>84882815
How about we talk about times we acted like the baby driver instead?
It's a shitty pastiche
>>84884910
what makes it a shitty pastiche?
