I honestly think it would have ended up being widely praised as one of the best horror films of the 90s if Blatty was allowed to maintain that incredible slow-burning and subtly atmospheric style of horror all the way up until the end instead of being forced to deliver a typical gory, SFX-laden finale.

l liked the fan edit, but desu it does end really abruptly so maybe the extra stuff fits

The lack of solid closure on the Gemini in the theatrical cut bugged me as well. He just seems to fade into the background in the finale of the film when Pazuzu and the priest enter the picture.

The old lady talking with the killer's voice at the end is super spooky

One of the best movies I've seen

aside from in the mouth of madness, the pinnacle of 90s horror for me

it's a very good movie
at times actually scarier and more powerful than the first one
the exorcism at the end feels a bit tacked on but i don't really mind it since without that exorcism scene we also wouldn't get one of the greatest scenes in horror kino history

the legion cut also used different takes of brad douriff's scenes all of which are vastly inferior to his performance in the theatre cut

also, fun fact: theatrical cut is actually superior to blatty's director's version, one of the very rare instances in hollywood of the suits being smarter than a director.

and why did brad dourif never get to play joker is beyond me.
