A 15yo got stabbed in front of my school once when I was like 13. I remember a friend calling me to tell me and I got really excited and there was still blood on the ground where he was stabbed and it was just awesome. Another time some junkie broke into the school and a janitor apparently found him just sitting in the dark in an empty classroom. Because it was on our floor during recess everyone was running around panicking. The thrill was great. Best part is that it was around 6pm in late autumn so it was already dark outside.

No, I just grew older and learned to appreciate movies in a different way. Eventually, you'll see that ITMOM is pure flash and unconnected scenes without any real point, while Prince of Darkness is great minimalistic filmmaking in the vein of Assault on Precinct 13 (although not as good), with a great soundtrack (ITMOM's was pretty damn bad).
All in all, I'd say that ITMOM is the tipping point of Carpenter's carreer, where you still see many of the things that made him such a legendary director but you can also start seeing all the faults that would turn his 90s output into a rather mediocre version of himself.

This. I never fully appreciated the original Halloween until I downloaded the blu-ray version. Prior to that I had only ever seen it on AMC when they were having horror movie marathons around Halloween time. It holds up amazingly well.

I saw Nightmare on Elm Street for the first time a few days ago. I got upset right at the start because I knew Tina was gonna die since she had sex, as per the 'rules of surviving a horror movie' as given by Scream. Wes Craven pulled the same trick in both movies. It looked like Tina was going to be the star of NOES since she was the first character introduced, like how you thought Drew Barrymore was going to be the star of Scream since she was the biggest name of that film but they killed her right at the start. I thought Tina was super hot and really didn't want her to die.

October has leapfrogged July as my favorite month as I've gotten older, for sure. This October also has the added bonus of being when the new Mario and South Park games release, so it should be a good one. Shame there's not going to be anymore Monster Madness, but in hindsight, James has sort of been phoning it in for the last couple of years anyway. Sequel-a-thon was the last truly great one.

Plus, there was the year before last, where half the videos were just James and Mike awkwardly stream-of-consciousness talking about movies.

Then, last year, he couldn't even be bothered to cut any clips of the movies being discussed together, so it was just James sitting there, with a boring static shot of the movie in the corner. I would really be surprised if any of that was scripted either. I think James has started to forget that scripting, researching, and editing is where his strengths lie.

That is such a perfect shot. Legitimately startling and upsetting. And you'd think there'd be so many other films with shots trying to do something like that but not so perfectly and effectively. And the music was just right too, and the gauzy, breesey beauty of late 70s suburbs that suited horror atmospherics so well for some reason.
