Aliens is completely out-of-tone for the franchise, Alien 3 and Prometheus capture the tense, claustrophic atmosphere of the original far more than Aliens or Resurrection. Hell, I'd even rate Alien vs. Predator higher in that regard. The reason so many people like it the most is because it's the only one Blockbuster had for rental when they were growing up.

That doesn't make it less valid. Cameron's decision to make an action film out of the property was probably one of the only avenues he could take. Ridley basically perfected the scifi horror side of it, so why try to replicate that?

I had never watched Alien until last year. I watched it. Unfortunately I had also just watched The Thing for the first time a few days before and Alien was just shit in comparison.

Then I watched Aliens. When it was over I was mystified by the love it gets. I mean, it was ok...but definitely one of Jim's worst flicks.

I've not bothered watching any of the others. Don't really see the point in wasting my time.
