Literally the only worthwhile director in the Criterion.

Also, I'm just now finding out he died last February.

Stalker
Revanche
The Graduate
Branded to Kill (thanks for the reminder, above anon)
Moonrise Kingdom
The Third Man (if I can find it, been unsuccessful during the last few sales)

Fuck the memes. The Criterion collection has some great movies. Reddit just likes to talk about them too much.

that's because it's been out-of-print for years. you will only find it on eBay and other resellers at an exorbitant markup

That'll kinda suck. I have a feeling that if Criterion keeps making hard copies of all their blu rays (and I hope they do), it'll be increasingly less obscure titles and nearly all of their more obscure titles will be streaming only.

a 90s WKW boxset is rumored to be in the works, apparently they bought the rights away from Kino Lorber.

Happy Together is already streaming on Filmstruck and Fallen Angels will be later this month. I think they also have Days of Being Wild, not sure about As Tears Go By (probable) or any version of Ashes of Time (not likely)

Why are people so obsessed with the Criterion label? It's more important than the movie itself for some people. I see people buy Criterion even if it has a bluray release on another label for half the price. Often it's a better print because Criterion have been known to fuck things up like color grading in the past.

>>84855469
>SRP: $39.95

and while I agree that some people take Criterion too seriously, they by-and-large make a great product for collectors
>>
>>84855615
>I see people buy Criterion even if it has a bluray release on another label for half the price
that's extremely rare, at least in their intended market (North America), as they are often the only home video rights holders for those films. the only examples off the top of my head I can think of are for contemporary American films (Fear and Loathing in LV, Time Bandits, Wes Anderson films) and then Criterion's release usually only comes out after the studio produced blu-ray goes oop. if one has a region-free player, than yeah, their options open up beyond Criterion

as for fucking up colors, contrast, sharpness, and such, it doesn't happen quite as often as you imply. maybe a couple dozen out of nearly 900 editions isn't a bad ratio (and some of those are just a matter of taste and not fidelity)
