Didn't like VV as a drill sergeant, his R Lee Ermy impression was piss, and Garfield's smug cunt face during the boot camp section made no sense, then there's the actual okinawa battles which look like they belong in a B-movie horror, I get Mel was trying to show off hor horrific it got out there but it was more goofy than scary.

The first half is embarrassingly bad - it's like a fucking hallmark movie, then there's some atrocious but obligatory Full Metal Jacket bootcamp scenes except rather than getting a badass R Lee Ermy type they got vince fucking vaughn and then the second half is an ok war film with some hilarious Evil Dead deaths thrown in for good measure

Battle of The Bulge, Guns of Navarone, Patton, Saving Private Ryan, Tears of The Sun, Letters From Iwo Jima, We Were Soldiers, Platoon, Jarhead, Black Hawk Down, Apocalypse, Bridge Over The River Kuai, The Great Escape, Lawrence Of Arabia. All those movies off the top of my head are better than Hacksaw Ridge.
