Let's discuss high brow film.

I know there are at least some of you with decent taste.
>>
>>84830079
>high brow film
>Tarkovsky
what did you mean by this

So far I only have this poll to go off of and branch off from reading up on wikipedia. Anyone know of some decent charts/lists
>>
>>84830143
Sight & Sound is a decent place to start, but once you find directors who you find interesting you should move on from charts and list and start watching films by director.
>>
>>84830122
He is generally seen as taking on more of an artistic liberty. Thinking movies for the most part. Plus he is just a big name, I could have used a lesser known director but everyone knows Tarkovsky.
>>
TSPDT is the best list.
>>
Freddy Got Fingered.

Truly a patrician classic.
>>
>>84830079
been a while since i saw one. i'm obsessed with paolo sorrentino currently. anything on netflix worth checking out?
>>
>>84830921
Black Coal, Thin Ice is a great procedural thriller. reminds me of Prisoners in that it's a pulp story filmed without any sort of commercial trappings.

>>
Dawn Of Justice anyone? I feel it got too much flack, it's probably because capetards can't handle deep philosophical films that take time to digest in order to full get them, rather than forcing retarded quips every other scene.
Will Snyder be Carpenter 2.0 in a sense that his work gets the credit it deserves after the dust has settled? Just look at what happened to The Thing 1982 and now it's a cult classic. I have a good feeling about it, screencap this.
>>
>>84830079
2001 is for plebs
>>
>>84831756
not that i disagree with you, but this is not the correct thread for talking about blockbusters. there are BvS threads every day.
>>
>>84831783
this. The Pest is true pleb filter
>>
>>84831803
How is it not? OP said this is a thread in which you discuss high brow films, Dawn Of Justice being one. How does it not belong here, then? Are you implying blockbusters can't be high brow or what?
>>
>>84831906
epic... simply epic
>>
>>84831906
it goes against the spirit of the thread, which is to talk about films that aren't often discussed on /tv/.

not that anyone seems to be doing it anyway. i guess i'm just being anal.
>>
>>84830122
He's considered one of the greatest film makers of all time, isn't he?
>>
>>84831906
You can start a separate thread for that movie and I guarantee it will reach the bump limit.
>>
>>84831967
by some people, yes, but that does not make it objectively so
>>
>>84832009
Which implies that you think no director is objectively high brow, in which case your original post is pointless.
>>
I've seen Stalker and Zerkalo. Which of his films should I watch next?
>>
>>84832042
I know that Tarkovsky isn't high brow. I wouldn't say the same toward actual high brow film makers.
>>
>>84832079
I thought Solaris was a bit more of a straight forward movie if thats what you are into.
>>
>>84831906
>this is a thread in which you discuss high brow films, Dawn Of Justice being one
fuck off
>>
>>84832042
mostly i just wanted to start a conversation about his work

i guess there were better ways i could've gone about it
>>
>>84832179
What's the matter, you haven't read the Bible and couldn't comprehend it's imagery or was it the lack of quips? Perhaps it was both.

About 3 years ago I realized film is not worth getting into as an art form.
>>
>>84832464
then what is it worth getting into for? and why still browse /tv/?
>>
>>84832281
Are you incapable of talking about anything other than capeshit?
>>
>>84832526
I was mostly joking with that post anon, but looking at how many "academy approved" films I've seen makes me feel like I could have done something more important with that time.
>>
Going to finally watch Dawn of Justice for the first time tonight. What am I in for?
>>
It's really not tho
>>
>>84832610
The ones Ive seen have been memorable enough to have spend the couple hours or so watching them.
>>
>>84831967
Only on /tv/ and Reddit
>>
Nolan? Tarantino?
>>
>>84832766
Ok snowflake, why don't you like Tarkovsky?
>>
Seriously, where should I start with this commie? I downloaded Andrei Rublev but I don't think I'm ready for it
>>
>>84832820
Ivan's Childhood is a decent introduction to his style.
>>
>>84832820
Just sit through it. Even if you don't enjoy it. That way you can boast about it to everyone and they will think you are high class
>>
>>84830122
Who are you trying to impress?
>>
>>84832951
no one, but i do sincerely dislike Tarkovsky. that post might be overly sardonic, because i do recognize what people see in his filmmaking, but it just completely fails to interest me on any level.
>>
>>84832990
Thank you for your reasonable response anon, carry on
>>
>>84832951
>>84830122
Its just weird for Russians because they would air his movies every week so every here has seen them so much that they don't seem "high brow". Maybe I am mistaking the meaning of the word.
>>
Is this kino lads? I love the art direction.
>>
>>84833586
no
>>
>>84833586
Wes Anderson's films are cute and fun, I've seen them all except for GBH and Darjeeling Limited and I thought they were all enjoyable and good.

He is definitely not a second coming of Christ, like some imdb retards like to think, his composition and staging is very basic imo, and not at all deserving to be in this thread.

>>84833789
To me he creates better composed screens than any Tarkovsky movie out there.
>>
>>84833839
No way, Tarkovsky can make compositions with more layers than Anderson would ever do and make it look infinitely more natural. Even if naturalism isn't Anderson's bag, it doesn't make his intentionally simple look better than someone who can work with detail.
>>
>>84834093
you fell for commie propaganda
>>
>>84833586
>Wes
>kino

pick 2
>>
>>84834174
Tarkovsky was no friend to his establishment.
>>
>>84833586
>>84833839
The Life Aquatic and The Darjeeling Limited are both great, though i can't say i care too much for many of his other films. Fantastic Mr. Fox is really fun, too.
