>a decent ex-con movie
>a tepid melodrama
>an overrated sci-fi horror
Jon Glazer is okay.
James Gray is the ultimate underrated director, pumping out modern classics yet no one talks about them.
I'd also say Jeff Nichols and David Lowery, but i'm waiting for Lowery's second live action disney movie to officially say that.

>watches Under the Skin once
Monte Hellman
Richard Kelly
Andrew Dominick
John Carpenter and Dario Argento.
I know the USA and 4chan like them but international cinephiles and critics that like european art-house films don't like them at all.

Southland Tales is K I N O
People weren't ready for it to tell the truth we live in now.
The Box was his misstep though. Hopefully he makes another movie soon.

Take Shelter and Loving are great, but i really disliked both Mud and Midnight Special. does Shotgun Stories tip the balance?
Bennett Miller might not be the most underrated, but he deserves to be brought up in a thread like this. his three features were successful on release, but all of them were promptly forgotten about. especially unjust concerning Foxcatcher, one of the best social commentaries on America's class politics, and seems prescient regarding the current resurgence of nationalism.

>James Gray
definitely agree. The Immigrant and The Lost City of Z are both fantastic.
