I already know about Basic Instinct, Cruising and Windows. Are there any other films that were ripped apart by critics because of "MUH GAY RIGHTS"? Is Cruising a good film?

I'm not trying to stir up political shitposting.

This movie had minor controversy because the bad guys were fags. It's a pretty good one though.
>>
>>84814740
I've heard of this movie but I didn't know there was some minor controversy surrounding it. Were there any protests?

There were one or two articles about it I saw but you're insane.

>you're insane.
What? I didn't know the movie was so small.

Kek, I had forgotten about that retarded controversy. The funniest part is the fags threatened to protest the Oscars but they ultimately didn't show up.
>>

no proof

Truly classic. The best part is the last few minutes where he's in the street talking to the Brooklyn hipsters and none of them try to logically refute what they said.

what HE said

Bill wasn't gay. He just wanted a vest with tits on it.
>>
>>84814945
They have a scene in that movie to explicitly explain that buffalo bill is not a transsexual
>>
>>84815556
>>84815581
The LGBT community didn't care. Even though the film went out of its way to specify Bill isn't a tranny the LGBT community had a fit because "HE HAS A SMALL DOG AND ACTS A BIT FRUITY! HE'S GAY! THIS FILM IS SAYING US GAYS ARE BAD!" Jonathan Demme stated in interviews that Bill isn't gay but the LGBT community continued to freak out anyway.
>>
Gays are largely insufferable irl
>>
>>84815786
Some people whining about something does not mean all people in that group feel the same way. People will whine about fucking EVERYTHING that exists. It only represents those people whining.

I'm a transsexual and buffalo bill doesn't offend me, he's based on a lot of real life serial killers and is an interesting and believable character. The only thing that bothers me about him is that dummies think that he's trans anyway and then decide that all trannies are just like buffalo bill for no reason.
>>
>>84815898
You don't understand, there was a significant amount of backlash. Obviously not every LGBT in the world was pissy but a ton of them were.
>>
>>84815942
Not enough backlash to prevent it from making more than ten times it's budget or prevent it from winning five academy awards including best picture.

Silence of the Lambs is not a "hated" film.
>>
>>84814671
>negative depiction of homosexuals on film
what!?
WHAT!?
There were no fucking homosexual characters in Basic Instinct.
What the fuck were these pieces of shit talking about?

Braveheart is criticized because of the king's pathetic faggot son and the scene where the king throws his son's gay lover out a window

Sharon Stone's character is bisexual and she has a psychotic lesbian lover.

This is a thing?

People disliking/protesting movies because they "negatively portray gays"?

How do you negatively portray gays? You'd have to have a bunch of "bad people" in the movie and make special effort to bring up that every bad person is gay and make effort to mention that every "not bad person" is straight.

Otherwise you are just portraying a person negatively. A person that happens to be gay. Just like they happen to have short brown hair, blue eyes, a cat, wears boots, etc.

Fucking people. They need to realize that "being gay" is not the whole of a character. Just like skin color, religion, hair color, gender, choice of clothing, what kind of car they drive, etc isnt the whole of a character.

Having a "negative character" being gay/black/asian/man/woman/tall/short/christian/jewish/etc is just not being exclusive when writing a character.

Cruising is really terrific, it 100% wouldn't be able to get made today because it depicts faggots as they really are, sexual freaks, but it also shows that perversion exists in every man, that it's the entire society that's rotten, like in his other films, decay and corruption is everywhere even where you don't expect it, and it's made with no compromises for the studio or the audience, it's the opposite of bland and soulless filmmaking like we see constantly today. It's really perverse and ambiguous, Friedkin is constantly fucking with the audience, he's so mischevious and gives no fucks about political correctness or narrative expectations. It's full of subtle unsubtlety, like those inserts of gay porn during the murders. It's also one of those great NY movies where it's depicted as a hellish shithole, like Escape from NY or Taxi Driver. Perhaps Pacino's best acting with Scarface, you can see Friedkin really pushed him out of his comfort zone.

Doesn't every Verhoeven movie get hate because of whiny liberals?
>>
people got pissed about Irreversible's gay dude raping a woman.

Also Cruising is good.

>Cruising is really terrific, it 100% wouldn't be able to get made today because it depicts faggots as they really are, sexual freaks
Sounds like you missed the point just as hard as the gays protesting it if you think the film portrays all homosexuals as freaks.
>>
>>84817258
Yup, this shit was pretty prevalent in the 80s and 90s. Cruising, Basic Instinct and other films were protested by LGBT groups.

>Although universally acclaimed, Scar has sparked considerable controversy regarding the character's appearance and personality, specifically his darker-colored fur and alleged sexuality. The general public, however, appears to have remained largely oblivious to such concerns according to David Parkinson, author of The Rough Guide to Film Musicals.[141] The Washington Post felt that "Scar clearly is meant to represent an evil African American because 'while Simba's mane is gloriously red, Scar's is, of course, black."[142] Meanwhile, Scar's mannerisms and voice which, according to Nightmare on Main Street: Angels, Sadomasochism, and the Culture of Gothic's author Mark Edmundson, resemble "a cultivated, word-weary, gay man,"[143] has been deemed homophobic by some commentators because, according to The Independent, "the arch-villain's gestures are effeminate"[144] while, in addition to the film being "full of stereotypes,"[145] the character "speaks in supposed gay cliches."[146] Susan Mackey-Kallis, author of The Hero and the Perennial Journey Home in American Film, observed that Scar is "more effeminate [and] less brawny ... than" both Mufasa and Simba.[147] Additionally, "Even though [Scar] would be expected to mate with one of the lioness, he is never seen intimated by any."[132]

it's a cartoon lion
even if he is meant to be coded as gay it's not like that had the slightest to do with his desire to rule the pride lands
>>
>>84814671
I fucking love Cruising, very very accurate depiction of the gay scene, esp. in those days.
>>
>>84815898
>I'm a transsexual

Ever wonder why they have to mention this at every possible opportunity?
>>
>>84823947
you say that like it wasn't completely relevant
>>
>>84822845
>The general public, however, appears to have remained largely oblivious to such concerns according to David Parkinson
wow, it's almost like people without useless gender studies degrees don't critically analyze children's cartoons for their portrayals of sexuality.
>>
>>84824162

Trannies are never relevant.
