Was Avatar overrated, or did it deserve it's praise?

It was mediocre and an hour too long. It's fine if you want to do blue natives for a move, just don't make a movie about blue natives for 2 and a half hours where literally nothing happens

It was properly rated from the start, not because of the story but the tech it took to pull it off, then it did so well in the box office people referred to it as overrated. It has been considered overrated for so long now that it has actually become underrated again.

its 9/10 for what it was made to do

its purpose was to be a blockbuster for the masses, be relatable across all cultures, and to push 3D tech

it ticked all the boxes and raked in all the money

it was emotional, had very easy to follow story for the normies, and was entertaining

its not mediocre---its a home run

Much like a great one night stand, Avatar is visually gorgeous, but vapid and forgettable. The second time you experience it, you realize that there really wasn't much there to begin with.

it definitely had good lore and backstory

It deserved the praise it got regarding the special effects and 3D. Don't really remember it being praised on other aspects much.

half the appeal of this movie was the muh realism 3D

Quaritch was the only thing good in the movie.
