This did fine in China. Don't worry. It will get a sequel, because they can justify it by catering to China.

It was not good at all. I felt bad for the Mummy's actress, she did a good job and there was some good design work done, but it was wasted on a boring and tonally confused generic Cruise film, that was crushed under Universal's overeagerness to force an MCU rip-off.

But they did lay the foundation for modern blockbusters to have one, and no shared universe before has ever been as widely successful or as planned out as theirs. It's not as though the old Universal films were crossing over with each other all the time, or the Godzilla films were planned out in advance, they just made them one at a time.

And lastly, they ARE ripping off the MCU, they are explicitly copying Marvel's approach.

After reading the V sites (Verge, Vice Vox, Vulture) bitching about Cruise's age (54), how Cruise is three years older than Crowe yet is playing a younger charcter than Crowe (Mr Hyde), and the age difference between Cruise and Annabelle Wallis (32), I went to see it for myself.

It was good Indiana Jones knockoff. The may-december relationship between Cruise and Walllis gave me a boner during the entire film which is a plus. Having a boner during a film is my version of "thumbs up"

The movie was so-so.

It felt a bit rushed and character development and writing quality were minimal.

Sofia was excellent and literally the only redeeming quality. She's a very solid actress on top of being exceedingly attractive. I hope she continues to get more roles, despite The Mummy being fairly lackluster; she, herself, is very deserving.
