The first movie wasn't good though. It's just the only entry with a semi-coherent story, so it gets a pass. But it had many of the same problems as the sequels although they were less prevalent.

I watched a bit of a "Behind the scenes stuff" and for the first one, they actually looked at the vehicles that they transform into and think where do some of these parts fit? Because they are Transforming and not Morphing.

Details like that are great and honestly I knew I was going to like Transformers 1 when I saw the opening sequence with Blackout.

They get increasingly good 2bh. I hated the first one, but liked the fourth quite a bit. 2 and 3 aren't great, but I appreciate Bay's craft. No other director on the planet could've pulled off the pure carnage of DOTM's hour long finale. Everyone gives the first credit for having a "coherent story" but it's a bad one because Kurtzman/Orci are the worst screenwriters in Hollywood. The less influence they had on these films, the better they were.
