Fantasy war epic focused on Hyrule and the politics in wake of Ganon's reincarnation.
The first hour would be the negotiations and reactions to the threat, told from the perspective of Zelda as military generals brush off the idea that Ganon can be as bad as the legends say.

The second hour would be the war. Small battles that start with Hyrule winning and becoming arrogant until one huge-scale battle where they have their asses handed to them. Zelda's bodyguard/Hyrule's prized military general (who the audience would've assumed was Link) gets killed in a shock-twist here. Shown mainly from the perspective of the King of Hyrule. Section ends with Ganon's forces encroaching on Hyrule castle.

Last hour would be a few years later. A young woman, Malon, is being harassed in the forest by some Moblins. A young hooded man appears out of nowhere and saves her. The man reveals he's on a quest given to him by the gods themselves to save Hyrule. Malon scoffs until he shows the triforce on his hand.
They set off to find the master sword and the final duel with Ganon follows.

The whole film is maybe narrated by Zelda, depending on how that comes off.

Link's personality is non-existent so I think the only way to resolve that is to introduce him already with a purpose and a side-character (Malon) to whom he give exposition to (and then he can have the generic leading man archetype).
Although I wouldn't be opposed to removing Malon and making him a mute and having his section start with the gods giving him the triforce and telling him what he must do with his story then being a lone-warrior adventure

Either way, I think making him the focus for an entire film would end badly because he's not particularly interesting as a character

The problem with video game based movies is not that games couldn't make a good movie, it's that the people who produce those films don't play the game, they know nothing but the basic premise, so the adaptation of that media is flawed from the getgo, then they further deviate from what the games were about the end result being something completely different from any plot the games ever told us.

The plots are still convoluted so that normies who didn't play the games still don't get it, but fans of the games are alienated at the same time. Then you have to think "who did you make this film for?"

Assassin's creed and warcraft are 2 prime examples of this as is the long running resident evil series.

They need to be more faithful to their source material and then a Deus Ex: HR film could be good, Diablo and Diablo II.

First one has a plot, but the point is that your character is so wrapped up in bloodlust that he doesn't even give a shit.

Basically An organization is using threats and extortion to force people into committing acts of violence against the Russian mob in an effort to destabilize Russian-U.S. ties

The second one expands on this, revealing that it takes place in a universe where the Cold War didn't stay cold, and the Russians won. The protagonist of the first one was, in fact, a special forces soldier who lost his best friend (and comrade who saved his life) in a Russian nuclear attack post-war. He took glee in murdering the Russian mobsters without bothering with the bigger picture out of revenge. Him, along with several other (mostly veterans) were urged or forced into committing similar acts of violence by an organization committed to starting a second war for U.S. independence. Thanks to the participants indifference towards/inability to figure out the truth, the game ends with every character dying in the ensuing nuclear war.

Plot aside, it'd be a bit like if Tarantino directed Drive.

A three hours epic based on Stronghold would be GOAT.

I get mad when people call something a game when it's just a walking simulator. Also when people say a story is the most important part of a game nowadays. People still have very low expectations for stories in games so any game with an excuse plot will have a "good story" to them, and instantly become a "good game".
Also many games claim to have choices but they really don't.

I agree but in their defense, gaming is popular, and much cheaper than trying to make a movie while also hitting a much larger audience.

Yeah. It's pretty lame. But it's a side effect of storytelling and how people connect to it. Plus a story is the backbone to keep you hooked from action to action.

Sadly, a product of rising budgets. Back in the 80s-90s where video games were just made by coders who loved Tabletop, the writing and choices were incredibly deep and intricate. Nowadays, people don't care about that and instead hate making their own choices. While increasing tech and graphical fidelity has resulted in choice becoming a waste of resources.

All of strangereal if they made the plane combat more realistic, switched between squad members and squads flying different roles. Meanwhile questioning the essence of the nation state and what it means to be a soldier would be so amazing. Even if they had to make the bad guys nazies, it'd be pretty good. All the leitmotifs and subtle things, like unsung war where there were two versions of the journey home, especially the one sung by POWs and chopper, and the one sung by pilots at the end when they put aside their borders and decide to just end the war. You've got globalism and nationalism, I'm not sure if anything would be missing.
To be honest, armored core could make a good movie too, if they presented characters right. Assassins Creed could've been a better movie, too.

Only if they chose to make Niko make all the "morally wrong" choices throughout the story. It'd be interesting to see him fuck up everything related to living a clean life, and be forced to go back to killing people to scrape by. Multiple times throughout the story he's given the chance to do good, and to live clean, but every time he lets bitterness and rage get the better of him.

Ending would be the scenario where Roman gets murdered at his own wedding and we see Niko go no russian.

Well it certainly couldn't be one of the easiest games in the history of gaming franchises. Seriously each area following the "chosen hunter" and his excessively buffed weapons from assorted game locations as he fights brainless enemies has been less engaging than the last. Aside from the handholding, the game's only consistency is providing you with absolutely retarded, unchallenging mobs and allowing you to run through all of them without any combative motivation thoughout the entire game. All to make the difficult feel easy, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when From Software voted to make the game a PS4 exclusive; they made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody. just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for the souls series. Bloodborne might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Final Fantasy 7 in its refusal of challenge, skill and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

The enemies were easy; the bosses were unfairly hard. As I played, I noticed that every time a enemy went for an attack, he spent an unrealistic amount of time telegraphing an attack.

You know damn well that the qualities that fundamentally make Souls good are inherently 'gamey' and dependent on the player's ability to explore that there's no real point. What I suspect you really want to do is take the feelings and 'ideals' of Dark Souls and transplant them into a film, even if that would require creating something with a more narrative focused structure.

Yeh Witcher would be my pick too, such a vast universe, it pretty much has everything laid out before so you could simply focus on a small part of the story, make it something self contained and only hint at the bigger picture often at times so the nu audience won't get lost.

Mass Effect is also a fair contender, the UT concept has been done a few times however with modern CGI they could pull off the levels featured in UT + grazy aliens / robots.

Serious Sam ala crank style would also be amazing to see. Quick! Someone call the Jason!

The most important thing would be world-building and the limited scope of the plot. Just following ragtag Terrans on a routine mission on a backwater planet that goes sour.

Could be as easy as just doing a holdout until evacuation for the colonists arrives. You don't even have to cram everything into the first movie. Just ragtag Terran vs Zerg (only few units shown: like marine, firebat, vulture, siege tank)

Protoss can just be teased, hinted at, cameos. Like binocular scene with a invisible blur slicing up a zerg and the other around it freak out. Or an unnatural thunderstorm is seen in the distance as they are leaving

None of that capeshit crap with truckloads of exposition crammed into 1 character and the "end of the galaxy" fight in the first fucking movie.
