Thanks for the recommendation roberto, thoroughly enjoyed that. I'd say that the notions of faith, which you touched on last time we spoke in a thread were fairly apparent but nonetheless provoking and affecting. The ending sequence in particular was very moving.

I'd recommend heavily watching Dead Man's Letters, if not for the similarity in superficial plot and premise but also in similar communist themes presented.

As for me: I'm surprised how divisive The Lobster is. I feel like I'm going against the grain a little by admitting I did enjoy it, though it is the only Lanthimos film I've seen thus far, so maybe he's surpassed this film before or since.

You're very much welcome, I'm really glad that you liked it. I'm not sure what else I can add to my thoughts on the film besides what I've put in my review, but it really is my favorite eastern european post-apocalyptic movie I've seen so far.

Yeah, Dead Man's Letters does seem to pique my interest. I'll check it out next time I'm in the mood for a post-apocalyptic film (which should be sooner rather than later).

Dead Man's Letters is definitely similar but also wildly different in its tone and subject. I dunno if you're on for watching via IRC or whatever but I haven't seen it in a while myself, would be good to revisit.

As for The Lobster, when I'd first seen it I was one of the earliest watchers of the people I follow, so to revisit almost 2 years later I'm surprised at some of the low ratings. I don't mind it, but it also doesn't wow me as much as I thought it would.

The ending left me wanting a lot more and the tone of part 2 really carried part 1, but overall it was phenomenal. The unusual sound design, top-tier costume design, gorgeous sets, and on-point performances from even the smallest cast members made me want to watch it again immediately after finishing it.

Hourglass Sanitorium has been on my list for fucking ages. I'll definitely check out O-bi O-ba too.
