The big twist was never R+l=J. That was used as distraction to setup the biggest twist in history. Rhaegar Targaryen is still alive.

In Steve-O's case it's because he's legitimately a trained clown, he knew he wanted to entertain folks and trained for it at a clown school. He's doing what clowns have been doing for hundreds of years, taken a tiny step further in some of the stunts. Most of them just involves classic circus stunts made to look more dangerous or silly than they really are, like when he walked a tightrope above a croc-pool. To anyone else in the crew it'd just be dangerous, but Steve-O knew how to walk a tightrope and so he had to make it look more dangerous than it was, by acting in the typical Steve-O way.

The rest of the guys were just lucky when doing stunts outside their skillset.
