I don't know why they are writing themselves into a corner with this being set between Enterprise and TOS. Enterprise got to have all those initial important encounters, and TOS was about really moving out and exploring. So, they cant' do much that ENT didn't do and they risk undermining aspects of TOS by trying to imitate it's approach. Because of the TOS movies you couldn't really make an effective post TOS series either (i.e about 10 years).
My pitch:
Set after TNG, DS9 and VOY - they now have the technology to reach another galaxy where they have to start from scratch. Even with the tech, it's still a timely and energy expensive process, so they are cut off from the Federation. They set up an outpost, kind of like DS9 style station, maybe orbiting an uninhabited planet or something. They have to try and make positive relations with the inhabitants of this galaxy, so it's like starting from scratch. Maybe a few seasons in once they have started to build up alliances and form the foundations you could have a story arc where a wormhole opens and the federation starts sending others through - and they upset the diplomatic groundwork somehow. Perhaps a war is already going on and our protagonists are trying to mediate but the newcomers (like a higher ranking admiral or something) decides they aren't doing it right.
I dunno, just a thought, but a post TNG/DS9/VOY era show could be done and still have cool aspects from each.

I never understood why a show set after Voyager and DS9 is somehow impossible. It's not like space is infinite or something. it's not like Voyager made an entire series out of exploring a distant galaxy previously unexplored by Humanity. It's not like there can't be other advanced races that can fulfill the usual roses as antagonists and allies. All because you don't have Klingons and Romulans as reliable bad guys doesn't mean you can't make new species. TNG created the Cardassians, and they were basically the primary antagonist race in DS9. And for better or for worse, Voyager created the Kazon as it's antagonist species before they were replaced by the Borg.

I mean seriously. Enterprise was fresh because a prequel had never been done before, and the idea of exploring the early days of Starfleet was interesting. the idea of making their uniforms look like airforce pilot suits was a clever idea to show the setting was further back from the original show.

But this? ANOTHER prequel? There's only so far back you can even go without retconning shit or writing yourself into a corner because there are certain predetermined events in the future across the rest of the fucking franchise

He introduces the Captains and Leaders of this expedition, namely the new Captain of the Enterprise. He exchanges a few words with the Captain, basically about how the Enterprise is a great ship.

Aside from what the Enterprise was doing specifically, we have little information about what was going on at that time.
